So which is it ? The OT prophets are just spirits or you were putting OT prophets in a different class than 'prophets in the spiritual sense'?

In the New Testament, when they speak of prophets they are not talking about people who claim to be prophets.

They are talking about people who come bringing you doctrines, beliefs, faith, etc... All people are influenced by spirits, and we need to test the spirits.

"If anyone teaches otherwise and does not consent to wholesome words, even the words
    of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which accords with godliness,
        he is proud, knowing nothing, but is obsessed with disputes and arguments over words,
            from which come envy, strife, reviling, evil suspicions, useless wranglings of men of
                corrupt minds and destitute of the truth, who suppose that godliness is a means of gain.
                    From such withdraw yourself." - 1 Timothy 6:3-5

Are they preaching evil?! Are they recommending people to sin instead of repenting and coming closer to God?!

"This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare
    to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all." - 1 John 1:5

"...Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God." - Mark 10:18

"A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit." - Matthew 7:18

"Therefore by their fruits you will know them." - Matthew 7:20

Some make false accusations in their prophesizing. Thats a bad fruit no matter how much it is covered up by spirituality.

False prophets are all spirits that are not of God.

There are many counterfeits of the gospel, there are many people who claim to believe in Christ...

But just because they say this does not mean they are indeed His, what will confirm if what they are saying is true are the fruits.

"He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked." - 1 John 2:6

False prophets walk in rebellion against Jesus words and instructions.

"He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word
    which you hear is not Mine but the Father's who sent Me." - John 14:24

False prophets cannot walk according to the Spirit of God, as this is only possible for those who are His.

"For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God." - Romans 8:14

According to the bible, a false prophet is one whose words do not come true, who does not speak for the Lord.

So if someone who thinks or claims to be a prophet makes an accusation that isnt true, then that person is NOT a prophet.

Deuteronomy 18

20 But the prophet who shall presume to speak a word in My name which I have not commanded him to speak or who shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die.
21 And if you say in your heart, How shall we know the word which the LORD has not spoken?
22 When a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the thing does not follow nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously. You shall not be afraid of him.

Who is talking about false prophets or nonbelievers? 4LD brought up the term 'prophets in the spiritual sense' to differentiate them from OT prophets, but Scripture doesn't make that distinction.

Everything is spiritual.

Isa 63

I will tell of the kindnesses of the Lord,

the deeds for which he is to be praised,

according to all the Lord has done for us—

yes, the many good things

he has done for Israel,

according to his compassion and many kindnesses.

8He said, “Surely they are my people,

children who will be true to me”;

and so he became their Savior.

9In all their distress he too was distressed,

and the angel of his presence saved them.

In his love and mercy he redeemed them;

he lifted them up and carried them

all the days of old.

10Yet they rebelled

and grieved his Holy Spirit.

So he turned and became their enemy

and he himself fought against them.

Where did I say I was without sin?!

Nowhere I suppose. I've spoke with people who've had a distorted view of Grace. I think it's filtered through, lol.

While we will not be condemned if we sin, we should look forward in being free from sin.

"And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness." - Romans 6:18

If we fall, the Lord is there to take us back... He loves us. And then we are up again to do His will, what is pleasing in His sight!

"Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock:
and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock." - Matthew 7:24-25

That is the true grace of God: Godliness, love, forgiveness, mercy, salvation, power over all forces of the enemy... In Him we are victorious overcomers!

"For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things, to whom be glory forever. Amen." - Romans 11:36

God bless you in Jesus' name!

Scripture says

Revelation 19:10 (KJV)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~ for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.
Paul also does pray that the people the Ephesians  would recieve a “Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him.”
  Ephesians 1:17 (KJV)
That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:
So a deeper “knowning of Him” would therefore be possible, and since  the testimony of Jesus is the Spirit of prophecy.  Paul prayed that it would be manifested in their lives. If it was for the Ephesians,  than it was for all believers. That the testimony of Jesus would be manifested in all our lives which would therefore be the Spirit of prophecy, manifesting in our lives. At least according to scripture.
Much love in Christ, Not me
