There has been a lot of calvinist bashing lately. So I thought instead of bashing calvinism, why not show scriptural support for the belief in free will instead of bashing the view. So please explain, via scripture, why free will is true.

The bible states:

Ephesians 1:5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,

Romans 8:

29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. 30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.

Those verses are talking about what God has predestined for believers to become.  He has not predestined who will become believers.   Those verses speak to the sanctification process wherein we are being conformed into the image of Christ.

As for free will, God gives people the right to choose:

Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse; A blessing, if ye obey the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you this day: And a curse, if ye will not obey the commandments of the LORD your God, but turn aside out of the way which I command you this day, to go after other gods, which ye have not known.
(Deu 11:26-28)

I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live: That thou mayest love the LORD thy God, and that thou mayest obey his voice, and that thou mayest cleave unto him: for he is thy life, and the length of thy days: that thou mayest dwell in the land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.
(Deu 30:19-20)

And Joshua gathered all the tribes of Israel to Shechem, and called for the elders of Israel, and for their heads, and for their judges, and for their officers; and they presented themselves before God.
(Jos 24:1)

And if you stop and think about, giving us commandments and calling us to obey make no sense if we have no free will.  The very giving of commandments and exhortations and admonitions are meaningless apart from our willingness to obey:

This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
(Gal 5:16-17)

Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
(Jas 1:13-14)

And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
(Mar 8:34)

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
(Joh 3:16)

Believing, following, denying yourself, walking in the Spirit are all freewill actions.

Scripture says;

Deuteronomy 30:19 (NASB)
"I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. So choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants,

By God saying;

 “that God calls as a witness both heaven and earth against you to testify that He has put the choice of either life and death before man.”

God is saying in the strongest terms possible that the matter of the free will of man has been settled once and for all.  Even to the extent of calling all things both in Heaven and on earth to testify to the fact that it is unquestionably true.

In other words the God of love has called everything and everybody as a witness. That  God has given man free will to choose either life or death. Than the God of love instructs,  which one to choose. For His great love for mankind,  will do all within the bonds of righteousness to secure man’s choice. But man has to be the chooser. For He was made in the image and likeness of God. Meaning that which is free in God is free in man. Which is the ability to choose.

There is one other time in scripture where God uses such strong language concerning His actions. It is when He says “He swears by Himself”. He swears by Himself because there are no witnesses to His actions, because they have not happened yet. It was a promise of a future event. Here He calls all witnesses everywhere to testify about a passed event.  As scripture says; something that, “all”, in Heaven and earth can testify to.

Much love in Christ, Not me

Those scriptures prove free will is just an illusion.  You can only come to God if the Father reveals his Son to you.  Unless God chooses to do that, you will never be saved.  The fact some do not come to the faith proves this isn't speaking of everyone ever born.

No, they don't prove free will is an illusion.   They don't even address free will.  They speak to what God has predestined for Christians to become after they are saved.  They pertain to God's desire that we are holy and without blame before Him in love, that we be conformed to the image of Christ.  That doesn't prove that free will is an illusion.

You are incorrect about what they are saying.  They are speaking to the fact that God chooses who he will "according to the good pleasure of his will."  That is not about "what God has predestined for Christians to become after they are saved.  Your interpretation doesn't come close to being accurate.

What the whole passage says is:  "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love (Eph 1:3-4)

He has predestined and chosen the believer to be holy and blameless before him in love.  It is not choosing who is saved, but what they will become (holy and blameless).

29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son,

Also predestined Christians to be conformed into the image of His Son.  So yeah that is about what we are to become.

My interpretation is exactly spot on.

He was speaking to those who had been chosen by God, so no, you are not spot on.

He was talking to Christians.  They were not chosen to be Christians.  They were chosen to be blameless and holy.   That's what the text says.

The most prominent is the original design before sin
Genesis 2:16 (KJV)
[16] And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:
[17] But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

and when they had ate God said
Genesis 3:11 (KJV)
[11] And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?
[12] And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.
Genesis 3:13 (KJV)
[13] And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.
Genesis 3:17 (KJV)
[17] And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;

These are all statement of personal responsibility by God toward them... noting that choice was still in effect to choose good
Genesis 3:22 (KJV)
[22] And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:
[23] Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.
[24] So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.

The tree of life was not forbidden yet they could choose to eat from it after sinning and God, because choosing good was still there, forcibly kept them from doing so... God had to instruct them of the consequence of sin- the law- and then how no one could perform it to be saved... in the fulness of this time God sent His Son to live the fulfillment of the law and offer His perfect life for all of Adam's children!
