None of us should "strive to speak in tongues". I'm afraid that might get us caught up in the new wave charismatic mindset that speaking in tongues is a "prayer language" that can be taught and is made up of whatever nonsense gibberish you wish to speak out.

That's not with God or the Bible instructs.

We should all, however, strive to be filled with the Holy Ghost. Our experience will be the same as those in scripture: we will speak with other tongues. That's how we'll know we have been filled. The anointing straight out of Heaven brings the Holy Ghost, and tongues following that anointing.

It's like having an athletic tennis shoe without laces. If you buy that shoe, the "tongue" of that shoe comes with it. When you're filled with the Holy Ghost, you're going to speak in tongues. They go together.

But speaking in tongues can be faked. There is a counterfeit spirit and motivation. Everything God-sent has a counterfeit sent forth by Satan. This modern-day "prayer language" phenomenon is not Biblical. Megachurches are cluttered with uncoverted people babbling on in a tongue that isn't ordained of God and living ungodly lifestyles.

I think witnessing for the Lord is a worthwhile thing to do.

The fact is that the Holy Spirit has inspired a whole chapter of the Bible to give sound teaching on what tongues is, its purpose and how it should be used in order to build up our holy faith in God.   If you are denying that tongues is a genuine gift of the Holy Spirit for today, then you are denying God's Word.   Also, the supernatural gifts of the Spirit are the way the Holy Spirit moves, and when they are absent, the Holy Spirit is also dormant.  Those people who are saying the Holy Spirit is moving in their services, without the manifestation of the gifts, are just pretending and what is really going on is just man's doing and is of the flesh.  And the Scripture says that they who are in the flesh cannot please God.  The sad fact is that this speaks of most of our churches today where the true power of the Holy Spirit through the gifts of the Spirit is absent.   We can desire the gifts, but we can't conjure them up through our own efforts.  The Spirit distributes the gifts according to His will.  But the question is, why is the Spirit not doing that in most of our churches?  Answer:  man wants to do things his way and not God's way.  This is behind the nonsensical rubbish of Hillsong, Bethel, and Kenny Copeland.  All these are pretending that the Holy Spirit is moving, but in reality it is just fleshly nonsense and a counterfeit of the real thing.

Posters who object to Mad Hermits's well-documented case can only pontificate contrary assertions that fail to address the specifics of Mad Hermit's case.  For that reason, it must be conceded that he has decisively refuted critics of the claim that we must all strive to speak in tongues.

Of course everything about the church and Christian worship and practice can be faked.  Look at the Church that claims to be Christ-established 2000 years ago, and yet is filled with paganised ceremonies and worship of the pagan entity "Queen of Heaven" tarted up to look like the Virgin Mary.  That's a greater fraud than the counterfeit tongues spoken by people who have never read Paul's teaching in 1 Corinthians 14.   We have the counterfeit story called "evolution" that contradicts God's account of the origin of the universe.  We have counterfeit "prophets for the nation" trying to convince folk that God has sent them and is speaking to them.  We have counterfeit "marriage" between same-sex couples.  We even have counterfeit conversions in even the soundest churches, making it impossible to know whether the person you are sitting beside in church is a genuine believer or not.

But the foundation of God stands sure:  God knows who are His;  because He looks deeper than the outward appearance, and into the heart of people.
