Abstract

Autism spectrum disorder is a neurodevelopmental disorder of unknown aetiology. It is suggested to involve both genetic susceptibility and environmental factors including in the latter environmental toxins. Human exposure to the environmental toxin aluminium has been linked, if tentatively, to autism spectrum disorder. Herein we have used transversely heated graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry to measure, for the first time, the aluminium content of brain tissue from donors with a diagnosis of autism. We have also used an aluminium-selective fluor to identify aluminium in brain tissue using fluorescence microscopy. The aluminium content of brain tissue in autism was consistently high. The mean (standard deviation) aluminium content across all 5 individuals for each lobe were 3.82(5.42), 2.30(2.00), 2.79(4.05) and 3.82(5.17) μg/g dry wt. for the occipital, frontal, temporal and parietal lobes respectively. These are some of the highest values for aluminium in human brain tissue yet recorded and one has to question why, for example, the aluminium content of the occipital lobe of a 15 year old boy would be 8.74 (11.59) μg/g dry wt.? Aluminium-selective fluorescence microscopy was used to identify aluminium in brain tissue in 10 donors. While aluminium was imaged associated with neurones it appeared to be present intracellularly in microglia-like cells and other inflammatory non-neuronal cells in the meninges, vasculature, grey and white matter. The pre-eminence of intracellular aluminium associated with non-neuronal cells was a standout observation in autism brain tissue and may offer clues as to both the origin of the brain aluminium as well as a putative role in autism spectrum disorder.

Identifying the contributing factor maybe the first step in a treatment program for those with Autism.  I found the above abstract interesting because I've been involved with a mental health forum where Autism spectrum disorder has been discussed in detail, along with depression.  The full report is available in the Journal of Trace Elements in Medicine and Biology, Volume 46, March 2018, Pages 76-82.

Interesting article, especially considering the movement a while back to replace mercury in vaccines with aluminum.

Aluminum has been added to many things where it is completely unnecessary... baking powders, almost all baked goods, self-rising flour, pretty much anything with leavening in it... you will see "sodium aluminum phosphate" in the ingredients. Also, it is in deodorants (so it goes directly into your lymph nodes and breast tissue) ... it is in make-ups, cookware/bakeware, and the list goes on and on.... it's NOT NECESSARY!! So ... wonder why they put it in nearly everything?!

It does seem to make a difference in deodorant.  If you just purchase deodorant, it doesn't normally have aluminum, but if you buy anti-perspirant, you will find it as one of the ingredients.

I have allergic reactions to anti-persperants with aluminum.

I buy the Tom's brand that has no aluminum and they work really well.

Bryan, you may find the following extract interesting.  This is from 2011, so the potential damage from vaccines is a known risk.  So parents rejecting vaccinations for their children may have just cause.

Abstract

Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) are serious multisystem developmental disorders and an urgent global public health concern. Dysfunctional immunity and impaired brain function are core deficits in ASD. Aluminum (Al), the most commonly used vaccine adjuvant, is a demonstrated neurotoxin and a strong immune stimulator. Hence, adjuvant Al has the potential to induce neuroimmune disorders. When assessing adjuvant toxicity in children, two key points ought to be considered: (i) children should not be viewed as "small adults" as their unique physiology makes them much more vulnerable to toxic insults; and (ii) if exposure to Al from only few vaccines can lead to cognitive impairment and autoimmunity in adults, is it unreasonable to question whether the current pediatric schedules, often containing 18 Al adjuvanted vaccines, are safe for children? By applying Hill's criteria for establishing causality between exposure and outcome we investigated whether exposure to Al from vaccines could be contributing to the rise in ASD prevalence in the Western world. Our results show that: (i) children from countries with the highest ASD prevalence appear to have the highest exposure to Al from vaccines; (ii) the increase in exposure to Al adjuvants significantly correlates with the increase in ASD prevalence in the United States observed over the last two decades (Pearson r=0.92, p<0.0001); and (iii) a significant correlation exists between the amounts of Al administered to preschool children and the current prevalence of ASD in seven Western countries, particularly at 3-4 months of age (Pearson r=0.89-0.94, p=0.0018-0.0248). The application of the Hill's criteria to these data indicates that the correlation between Al in vaccines and ASD may be causal. Because children represent a fraction of the population most at risk for complications following exposure to Al, a more rigorous evaluation of Al adjuvant safety seems warranted.

It may be casual or it may not.  Who wants to risk their children's future?  Can science be trusted?

Since my mother exhibited definite signs of dementia as well as Alzheimer's, I wonder if some of her bizarre behavior and accusations against me may have been a contributing factor.  So what can we do?

So what do we do? How do you avoid toxic levels of aluminum? Answer: Avoid the top three sources of aluminum! Interestingly enough, let’s look at our two major conditions that are potentially caused by Aluminum.

Alzheimer’s – Highest levels of Aluminum are found in antacids and buffered aspirin. Who takes these for reflux and clot prevention – the geriatric population! Who is the most susceptible to Alzheimer’s – You guessed it!

Autism – High concentrations of Aluminum are found in some vaccines. When reading safety literature on vaccines, it will clearly state the safety of orally ingested aluminum. Safety and toxicity research on injected Aluminum has not been performed on children! It has been performed on animals and it always causes brain damage.2,3,4,5,6 While the amount of injected Aluminum is small (<0.85mg dose), so are these kids! Tiny 6 pound children at birth are being injected with a Hepatitis B vaccine loaded with Aluminum. What do you think that does to a developing brain? A few months later: Hib, DTaP, pneumococcus, Hep A, Polio are all vaccines that can contain Aluminum. Everything that is injected enters the body. Do not be confused by the low absorption rate of orally ingested aluminum. Injected Aluminum is absorbed 100% and is known to damage the brain more than any other part of the body. In fact, the half-life of Aluminum in your brain can be up to 50 years.1

You don’t want yourself or your family to get Alzheimer’s or Autism, so what can you do? First: prevent. Stop antacids and buffered aspirin, and use Aluminum-free vaccines. Second: detoxify the aluminum that is currently in your body. Only a small amount of research has been performed on Aluminum detoxification. The best options are substances with high silicon content. Also consider DFO (physician monitored only), EDTA, (physician monitored only), and NAC. Curcumin has been shown to reverse aluminum-induced toxicity.1

It’s a dirty world out there, and we can’t live in a bubble. Unfortunately, sometimes business profits have a higher priority than consumer safety (i.e. Vioxx). Here’s your action plan. Accept Aluminum causes brain damage. Believe it may be a contributing factor to Alzheimer’s and Autism. Avoid antacids, buffered aspirin, and Aluminum containing vaccines. Push for more research on Aluminum toxicity and treatment. Continue to fight for your family and friends. Every health condition has a cause, nothing is idiopathic, and keep your hope! We will find an answer.

5. Conclusions and future directions

By satisfying eight of the Hill's criteria for establishing causality applicable

to our study (Table 9), we show that Al-adjuvanted vaccines

may be a significant etiological factor in the rising prevalence of ASD

in theWestern world. We also show that children from countries with

the highest ASD prevalence appear to have a much higher exposure to

Al from vaccines, particularly at 2 months of age. In addition, the correlation

between ASD prevalence and Al adjuvant exposure appears to be

the highest at 3–4 months of age. Of note, these periods (i.e., first 4 postnatal

months) coincide with several critical stages of human brain development

and biobehavioural transitions that are known to be

impaired in autism (i.e., onset of synaptogenesis, maximal growth velocity

of the hippocampus [3], onset of amygdala maturation [81] and

development of brain-wave and sleeping patterns [82,83]).

Clearly, we cannot draw definite conclusions regarding the link between

Al adjuvants and autism based on an ecological study such as

the present one and hence the validity of our results remains to be confirmed.

A case control study with detailed examination of vaccination

records and Al body burden measurements (i.e., hair, urine, blood) in

autistic and a control group of children would be one step toward this

goal. Nonetheless, given that the scientific evidence appears to indicate

that vaccine safety is not as firmly established as often believed, it

would seem ill advised to exclude pediatric vaccinations as a possible

cause of adverse long-term neurodevelopmental outcomes, including

those associated with autism.

We have thus provided a hypothesis which we hope will encourage

future research into this area in order to resolve the issue of

whether or not vaccines might be responsible in some part for the

growing prevalence of autism in the developed world. Such future research

should consider the following: (i) the postnatal period represents

a very sensitive phase in development during which the physiology

of the nervous as well as the immune system can be influenced and

sometimes permanently changed [8,9,118,119,152–154]; (ii) Al is a

neurotoxin and a strong immune adjuvant (Table 1), hence Al has all

the necessary biochemical properties to induce neurological andimmune

disorders; and (iii) autism is a multisystem disorder characterized by

dysfunctional immunity and impaired brain function [17,20,22]. Because

the current safety data for Al exposure in infants and children is unsatisfactory

and because this demographic represents thosewho may bemost

at risk for complications following vaccination, a more rigorous evaluation

of Al adjuvant safety than what has been provided to date seems

warranted.

I omitted the more technical portion of this study.  If some want to delve into the detail leading to the conclusions drawn, have at it.  It all boils down to a risk reward trade-off.  How much information is being withheld from the public is impossible to speculate.  Highlighting was added by me.  This document is over 8 years old at this time.  What has been learned in the interim?
