@Annette  Oh-one more thing...

In the Club (should you choose to join), it is not required that you write your own poetry. You can post favorite lyrics to Christian songs or things by Christian poets, such as you did here.

We have 10 members now. So we are :) 'growing slowly, but surely.' My last post was from F.W. Pitt. One of the most beautiful, thought provoking masterpieces about our wonderful Master, Jesus Christ!:emot-heartbeat:I hope you get a chance to read it so it can bring glory to Christ and minister to you.

@Gary Lee Nice to see you again. You are already a part of the Poetry Club and I'm glad of it. Thanks for reminding this Sunday School 'girl'( :Dat heart, anyway. Age is but a number, right?) of one of the first songs I cut my teeth on..."Jesus loves me." It too had more verses than I knew from my childhood. Which you made me aware of through your link. Also, the bio info (Anna B Warner) you linked us to was helpful.  See ya in the club someday...( P.S.Another post, bro? If you feel so inclined or God leads you. No pressures. :)Just miss you.)

@Annette  Hope I'm not taking up too much space on your thread
but I wanted to share something I found just now (if that's okay?)
Also, to share some excellent lyrics with you all that are related:

A quote from Charles:

Some want to live within the sound
Of church or chapel bell;
I want to run a rescue shop,
Within a yard of hell.”
― C.T. Studd

Forward Ever, Backward Never!

Charles T. Studd, (a missionary) was a servant of Christ who faithfully served His Saviour in China, India, and Africa.

Until today I had no idea that the Studd's quote was the inspiration of a 1983 song which is a favorite of mine.

I emboldened his lines

("Some wish to live within the sound of Church or Chapel bell;
I want to run a Rescue Shop within a yard of hell."—C. T. Studd)

that are borrowed in Steve Camp's song.

Run to the Battle
by Steve Camp

Some people want to live
Within the sound of chapel bells
But I want to run a mission
A yard from the gates of hell

And with everyone you meet
I'll take them the gospel and share it well
And look around you as you hesitate
For another soul just fell, let's run to the battle
Run to the battle

Do you have your armor on?
We're in the middle of a raging war
We've been training for so long
Have we learned to use His sword?

We may not be ready but we serve a mighty Lord
And He's made us more than conquerors
So what are you waiting for? Let's run to the battle
We got to run, run to the battle

He has trampled down the enemy
And has given us the victory
When we pray we learn to see that His army
We are marching on our knees

There'll be times when we grow weak
Let's keep our faith alive
Let your faces shine with glory
For He's helped us to survive

And in that final hour when you feel like you're ready to die
Will you hear the trumpet sound
Will you hear the warrior cry, run to the battle
We got to run, run to the battle

Some people want to live
Within the sound of chapel bells
But I want to run a mission
A yard from the gates of hell

And with everyone you meet
I'll take them the gospel and share it well
And look around you as you hesitate
For another soul just fell, let's run to the battle
Run to the battle

Hi TurtleTwo,

I only had a couple lines of the poem myself. I googled CT Studd Poem and then searched the poem as an image.

Over the last couple weeks or so at church we have been given the chance to focus on what really matters.  A couple stanzas were read. I came home and looked for the rest :)

I see that you can just googke CT Studd poem and different links show up, where the poem is written out.

I will look for the poetry club.  Thank you

Thanks for guiding me. I found it and printed it for my scrapbook.

Your church sounds nice...it is getting harder these days to find one that has their priorities right.

I'm :emot-bounce: excited to see that you came to the Poetry Club and happy :) that you joined it. Welcome...

Thanks for letting me know more about the club and your latest poem that you have shared.  It is great that people use their skills to remind us of important truths.

@Annette

"Only one life, twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last."

I was thinking today how just those 2 lines from Charles T. Studd left such an impression on me as a girl. Being quoted behind the pulpit by my childhood Pastor led to a lifetime  :) of me using this short verse. It was helpful in witnessing to those rejecting Christ due to clinging to this passing world.

But the most personal way I ever used it was to write it in the front of a Bible that I gave my son when he was quite young. I'm sure it made an impact on him spiritually. :)

I wanted to share a poem I'd written as a sort of tribute to it:

There is a truth I was taught as a child

It's a rule that I hold fast

'Only one life twill soon be past

Only what's done for Christ will last.'

Time and again those words echo

Giving me pause as I go

Is what I do for God's glory

In my short time here below?

Life is a gift but it's fleeting

Wasted hours never return!

So I should use minutes wisely

And in my haste I must learn

Time is so precious, it races

I will be put through its paces

Only one life which soon will be done.

May I invest it for God's dear Son.

Thanks again, Annette for bringing the FULL poem to the attention of me and others here. And thanks for letting me share my heart in your thread.

For whosoever will save his life shall lose it and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. what is a man profited if he shall gain the whole world and lose his on soul, or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul  Matt 16:25-26

The poem was a great message

Hi TurtleTwo

I am so glad that you shared your tribute. I tend to feel that for someone to share what they have written is like a photographer or artist sharing his work, or a baker his talents.  (No focus on gender intended).

I agree with your sentiment whole heartedly,  we only have this one life. And how we choose to spend that time is so precious.

I love that you get the urgency of the message across and allow the reader time to consider their response to what they have read.

I am so glad you.i shared.  I apologize for the delay in getting back to you.

God bless.
