Why does Jesus not say in the beatitudes"blessed are those who believe, for they shall inherit eternal life? What could be more blessed than faith in Christ? But He said: blessed are the merciful, they shall obtain mercy! I thought we obtain mercy or forgiveness of our sins by faith alone in the shed blood of Jesus! To His audiences, the Jew. Unto us is given the Gospel of Grace. Jesus hadn’t yet shed his blood when he taught the beatitudes. The Jews could have still believed and usher in the Kingdom. The King was right there. Edited September 20, 2018 by Kristin

Because the fruit of the faith is: Mat 5:4 - to be the poor in spirit! Mat 5:4 - mourn for our sins and the sufferings of people Mat 5:5 - to be meek! Mat 5:6 - to hunger and thirst after righteousness Mat 5:7 - to be merciful Mat 5:8 - to be pure in heart! Mat 5:9 - to be peacemakers, that is to say, to reconcile people with the Creator (2Cor 5:18-20) Mat 5:10 - to be persecuted for righteousness sake without faint, believing in (Gal 6:9) Mat 5:11 - to be reviled and persecuted and slandered for Jesus' sake.
