I finally went to an orthopedist today. I've had problems walking since 2012 and it keeps getting worse. Due to depression I never did anything about it but today I did. I thought physical therapy could help but this doc said no. He thinks I will need surgery. However, right now I need to get a MRI. Since I don't have family or close friends with this is a major problem. I will apply for ABLE transportation but that will take a month or more to get. After the MRI the orthopedist plans to recommend a neurosurgeon because they do this kind of thing. I'm hoping maybe I won't need surgery. Now that I started doing this I feel a sense if urgency, at least for the MRI. I can't afford a cab and I don't belong to a church or anything. All I can think of is to call Catholic Charities but I don't think they do car rides. I made a post on Facebook. Anyone have any other ideas?

Meanwhile, I am going to pray God heals me. But I always do that anyway.

JTC, Catholic Charities might give you money for the taxi fare if you explain the problem.   One of my cousins that was going through awful things with cancer needed help with her rent one month and Catholic Charities helped her.  Also, perhaps the Salvation Army might help you.  I knew a person needing a wheelchair and the only people to help get him a wheelchair was the Salvation Army.

Lately I have been having trouble with walking outside....I thought it's because I have had alot of responsibilities and some trials for a long time, caregiver, etc.  Then we were trapped in the major fire and our apartment management was acting crazy, mom was in the hospital June 1 and 2, with hospital bills now coming.  So I thought perhaps it is just too much stuff happening to me, and perhaps that's the reason for my walking difficulty lately.  Like you, I pray the Lord helps me....I need to keep food in and errands done.

Hi Deb,

I would have never thought of the salvation army, thanks for telling me. I hope this isn't happening to you. This started years ago and very strangely. Back in 2010 I was rushing around, walking way too fast and I fell in such a way I almost went flying. I now know it was because I can't lift my right leg enough and I tripped on my own foot. Then in 2012 I had difficulty standing up from a very low stool. But I chalked it up to being 60 because I could still run up and down stairs. But it kept getting worse. I'm glad that I now know a neurologist type of Doc deals with this. For months I thought a bone specialist was where to go. I am aware that there are all kinds of neurologists, some treat epilepsy, others deal exclusively with MS, etc. I need to find out who would deal with this. The Doc yesterday said this happened to his father, the man ignored it and one morning he couldn't get out of bed, his legs were paralyzed. That really scared me. Even so, I'm not going to rush into spinal surgery, that's 1 of the most dangerous surgeries there is. Not only do I needs rides, I need emotional support.

JTC, I'm glad you are going to talk with another doctor about it.   I hope it's something that won't require surgery.  Let us know what the doctor says.    With me, I noticed my legs acting up when the hospital bills started coming in some weeks ago.  So that's why I thought maybe it was a stress thing...taking it easy and praying legs will get stronger again.   Besides all of the other things,  I have had to leave churches that went crazy liberal so I am also without a church....oh well, such is life.   Still know the Lord is with me and hoping He will help me recover.  Appreciate your prayers.

Salvation Army is great - good call.

Get it checked out too for sure.

There is a Proverb that could be good for you to bear in mind for the long-term too:

Quote

Proverbs 18:14 English Standard Version (ESV)
14
A man's spirit will endure sickness,
but a crushed spirit who can bear?

Praise Jesus, maybe just say, Father you are good if times are hard - this can lift your spirit to endure sickness.

This is so true and as we know from the Placebo effect - there is a massive mind body connection. Just a bit of understanding - science and religion are not mutually exclusive IMO.

I hope it works out for you Brother. I have prayed.

Bless you.
