(Worthy News) - South Carolina churches are shedding thousands of members a year, even as the state’s population grows by tens of thousands.

In the place we call the Bible Belt, where generations have hung their hats on their church-going nature and faithful traditions, an increasing trend of shrinking church attendance — and increasing church closings — signals a fundamental culture shift in South Carolina.

At least 97 Protestant churches across South Carolina have closed since 2011, according to data from the Lutheran, Presbyterian, United Methodist and Southern Baptist denominations. An untold number of other closings, certainly, are not captured by these statistics. [ Source: SC State (Read More...) ]

When you raise generations of Christians to believe in Evolution, to doubt the Bible's inerrancy and infallibility and divine origin, this is the fruit of that.  And they are getting this stuff in lots of liberal churches.

When people are not taught Christian doctrine and Sunday morning sermon are about managing finances, raising kids, over coming addictions, and breaking bad habits, this is the fruit of that.   Sunday morning services are not supposed to pastoral counseling sessions.

People are being raised and/or convinced that the Bible is irrelevant, archaic, and cannot be fully trusted.   So, why would anyone invest the time to come to church to study and hear about a book they are led to believe that they cannot trust?   How can they anchor their heart to something contains stories that have been relegated to allegory and metaphor and nothing in the Bible cannot be taken for what it says?   That only makes the Bible way too difficult to understand for the average person.   And they are not going to waste time coming to church to hear that they cannot really know what the Bible says.

Liberalism is rapidly eroding the faith of many in the United States.

Hope is the very essence of Scripture... but we know were in the last days by the increase in knowledge and we've been told what to expect. This does not release us from the mission of Christ within us however :)

I think you are right.  When church attendance goes into decline and people don't see Bible as the final arbiter of all matters of Christian faith and practice, when faith in God wanes, Islam will come in to fill that void, most likely.
