And anytime He Himself has written in the presence of men it did not spell good news for those He was writing to . " In the same hour came forth fingers of a man's hand, and wrote over against the candlestick upon the plaster of the wall of the king's palace and the king saw the part of the hand that wrote. And the king's countenance was changed , and his thoughts troubled him so that the joints of his loins were loosed and his knees smote one against another ." That's not why they left. They left because they were trapped in their own trap. There were in violation of two laws: Deuteronomy 17 says that the two witnesses who testified evidence against the person to be stoned were to be the first to cast the stone. Leviticus 20 says that the man who is guilty of adultery must be put to death along with the woman. They broke two laws trying to prove Jesus to be a lawbreaker. These same men continued to try to have Jesus killed and eventually succeeded. They were not convicted of any sin.

Notice what it says. Let me know if you would like me to point out things more closely. This passage does not give the answer it just Jesus stooped down and wrote in the sand. They kept questioning and he stood back up and then said those that are without sin cast the first stone. Then he stooped down to write more. So no the passage does not give the answer thus the debate as to what Jesus wrote still continues.

If it was God would have had it put into His word. The important part of the event is the lesson we can learn from what took place. That is the focus not so much on what was said in the sand.
