Jesus told them, "This is the only work God wants from you: Believe in the one he has sent." So which is it? Is us believing in Jesus God's work to do, or is it the only work he wants from us? To get to the nitty gritty, it is important to not just read it, but study it within the context of the chapter and book, as well as the whole bible, and from an original language perspective. The original koine greek is a good starting place.
