Do you think the church is on the path, or completely off the path? I mean, I see people flapping their arms and going into convulsions in some services, but... they're still on the path... right?

There are still some good, sound churches....however, sorry to say, some have become so extremely liberal that a Bible believing Christian can't attend there.

I miss the days of when you could go into any church and know the pastor was godly, walking with the Lord and having that special communion with the Lord.   Now one must examine what a pastor believes and preaches before attending.

As for emotional type churches....some people are more extroverted than others.   I would observe if the people have the fruits of the Spirit and if they are preaching sound doctrine.   Personally, I prefer a more quiet, reverent service in order to hear the still small voice of God in my heart.

interesting

I've seen some services in which I thought someone should call 911 because there was no evidence of life

1Praise the Lord. a

Praise God in his sanctuary;

praise him in his mighty heavens.

2Praise him for his acts of power;

praise him for his surpassing greatness.

3Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet,

praise him with the harp and lyre,

4praise him with timbrel and dancing,

praise him with the strings and pipe,

5praise him with the clash of cymbals,

praise him with resounding cymbals.

6Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.

Praise the Lord.

Psalm 150 with no apologies

I can't tell if you're joking or not. There are a lot of very serious folks here.

Many, especially of the mainline denominations, have jumped the rails some time ago.  They are more concerned with the environment, social issues, and self esteem stuff so that the actual gospel is hardly ever mentioned, if at all.  They don't want to offend anyone. Not to mention the "name it and claim it" or "blab it and grab it" gospel of the TV faith preachers.    Yoga classes have taken the place of actual bible study and so-called "contemplative prayer" has replace real prayer.  Contemplative prayer is nothing more than Hindu centering exercises designed to embrace the God consciousness.   It is rather amazing the amount of eastern mystical religious thought that has crept into many churches.  The main goal seems to be more on personal experience than being grounded in doctrine and focused on the Cross.  Uh oh.... I just said a nasty word there... doctrine.  I am going to get hammered now.

I rather like it if there is some vibrancy in the normal service.  I would rather folks being somewhat motivated by the moment than a bunch of folk's sitting for an hour looking like they have been sucking on sour lemons or needing to be checked for a pulse to see if they haven't died.

He that is not against us, is for us. He that does not gather with us, scatters abroad.

"Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother. But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established. And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican"

Likewise if a member in your church sins, confront them.

Don't jump from church to church when you find sin. Unless the church's foundation is on sand. If your church's foundation is built on the cornerstone Jesus Christ set true, the Holy Spirit will deal with sin accordingly.

For all members of the body of Christ are the church.

True  practice of contemplative prayer is a richly rewarding experience.

Yet very unbiblical .     Define in your own words what contemplative prayer is .   Just define it .

I think most of the running up and down the aisles and dancing on the pews stuff is a show put on by Spiritual Show-Offs trying to convince others that they are something special.Paul taught order in the churches.
