Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.  Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee.  Proverbs 4:23-24

Maybe other members can post some favorite verses about our hearts and also of how our speech can affect us spiritually?   So important to watch how we speak as this goes down into our inward parts or heart.

Will try to add more verses bit by bit.   Please join in.

This scripture;

“keep thy heart with all diligence for out of it are the issues of life”

Is for me such a profound scripture. For it speaks of the center or the ground of life. Speaks of that which we are judged upon. For scripture also says concerning the heart;

“only a fool says in his heart their is no God”

and again;

“you shall find me when you search for me with all your heart.”

Once again bringing to light, it is what goes on in the heart that is that that is of value.

When I was a teenager I remember being questioned about whether I believed in God or not. With my mouth I said “no”, because that was what everyone else was saying. But in my heart rose up the thought, “you lying sack!, yes you do!”. It was so vivid that to this day I still remember it. For out of my heart rose an issue of life.

Much love in Christ to all, Not me

Another verse that has such beauty to it in describing our speech....

A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver.  Proverbs 25:11

The tongue has been compared to the rudder of a ship.So small in comparison to the rest of the ship,yet capable of sinking it if not controlled.......” rash words are like sword thrusts, but the tongue of a wise man brings healing”

:)I agree. One of my favorites. There is a song with these lines:

Like Apples of Gold in pictures of silver
A word fitly spoken shall be,
Like Apples of Gold in pictures of silver
Let my life bring glory to thee.

Proverbs 25:11 King James Version (KJV)

"A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver."
