I live near LA . We had a cat dismembered on our front lawn and the other day night we had a coyote wander down our driveway.

Powerful squirt guns with ammonia in them have been suggested, or vinegar.

Well that would be something like leg traps.  The Cougar urine might be worth trying or even bear urine.

I may look into the Coyote urine to draw them in better along with predator call so that I can send them some #4 buckshot.  The joy of living rural.

Here in L.A., some city areas have a coyote problem.   They were in my friend's yard at night, and had a live, small dog in one of their mouths!    My friend tried to scare them hoping they would drop the dog....but they ran off with it!

I hope she will get some information from her city on what they can use to defend themselves.  They have a small dog.

Anyone here have a coyote problem or have any ideas?   I thought of stun gun stick (not sure they are legal), maybe pepper spray?

I've seen coyotes around in my neighborhood.  Because we have small dogs, they are never left outside unsupervised.  I'm also wary of birds of prey which are plentiful here in Indiana and at our former home in Missouri.

5th or 6th largest city in the us, and we routinely see large birds of prey in the city. A great horned owl lives in our neighborhood. I saw an osprey just today. I see ospreys, bald eagles, several species of hawks routinely. A year or so ago, a kestrel landed on the hood of my car with a sparrow in its claws. I was sitting in the car at the time. (Ok so the kestrel is fairly small, it was still a bit shocking.)

Bow and arrow works fine in town around here. A friend of mine in the west valley has nailed a few coyotes in the last few months because a pair of them got into their neighbor's back yard. Bad idea for the coyotes - that yard is home to 4 pit mixes. They added coyotes to the nightly Neighborhood Watch patrol.

Bear spray works great on 2 and 4 legged predators from what I'm told. Cabelas sells it here, and the other outdoor places too.

I'm wondering why you would deliberately want to attract coyotes in order to shoot at them?    Or will shooting buckshot at them just scare them away from your house so they will avoid your place?

The idea is to not shoot at them but to actually shoot them.  As in dead.  They are over populated, a menace to people, pets, livestock, and property. And they upset a balanced ecosystem regarding wildlife.  We can hunt and trap them year round in my area.

There's no coyotes here, if there is, will become lunch like dogs on the street usually ended.
