Do not even eat with such people. The Lord told me that this speaks about sinning christians and that it is a command. Do not even eat with such person who sins and claims he is a christian. Same with the unbelievers, He told me. Read 2 Corinthians 6:14-7:1 Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? 15 What harmony is there between Christ and Belial[a]? Or what does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? 16 What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people.”[b] 17 Therefore, “Come out from them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you.”[c] 18 And, “I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.”[d] 7 Therefore, since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God. If you sin ask Jesus to help you. He set me free, He can set you free too.

In that case you would have to leave this world.11But now I am writing you not to associate with anyone who claims to be a brother but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or a verbal abuser, a drunkard or a swindler. With such a man do not even eat. 12What business of mine is it to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside? 13God will judge those outside. “Expel the wicked man from among you.”b

Paul says that there is a man in that church that is having sex with this step-mother and that the church is boasting about it. There is so much other sin he describes in that church. Time doesn't permit me to detail it. He is trying to get that church all through the whole book to purge themselves AS a church of great and terrible sin. That is why they cannot socialize with church members who are acting like unsaved and filthy behaving people. But, this is not a uniform command for all churches. Healthy churches that are thriving who may have a member out of Christ-like behavior can and should indeed try to bring that brother or sister back into the fold - however they can. Eating with them. Visiting them. However they can. Edited November 22, 2018 by Jayne

Hi mynickname, Some groups, such as Exclusive Brethren, take this rule of association to extreme and won't allow socialising with anyone outside their cult. This is legalism, and as you most likely know, the letter of the law is formal, cold, condemnatory, and often a cover for hypocracy, whereas the Spirit is restorative, merciful, and life-giving. Sure, I avoid close, regular, fellowship with professing Christians who deny Christ by the way they live, but I'm ever mindful that I once fitted that description. Thank God for rebukes done in love. 1

How do I know? Because it contradicts scripture and facts. Simple fact is we have all sinned, even after coming to Christ and will continue to do so until the day we die, so in essence, you are saying God told you not to associate with anyone, ever. And let us not forget not only did Jesus associate with sinners, but ate meals with them, and by sinners i include both His followers and those who were not. The Lord would not tell you to do something that is contrary to scripture. Pure and simple.
