How can I as a single person be an encouragement to married people in the church without getting in the way?

In their marriage and in their faith.

The same way you encourage single people, and vice versa for married to encourage singles. If instead, you're thinking of pursuing friendship with couples, understand that newlyweds, and those married just several years only, frequently feel like their single friends have quarantined them, assuming they want to be left alone!

Thanks for sharing.  That's quite ironic! I never would've thought that they thought that we thought that they want to be left alone without it being their true want.  How about those who have been married for a long time?

We move on to find new friends--couples--after the singles ignore us long enough. :)

Women should minister to women.  The advice of Scripture should be sufficient with a lot of prayer.  All should be done with great compassion.  Advice should be given when it is sought after, but would probably be resented if offered otherwise.

Marriage classes and retreats are some of the best places to discuss these things since people go there to learn.

Hi ContinuingCorletta, again some sound advice from Willa, it is a sensitive subject to intrude upon no matter how long or short a time that people are married for. There may well be a timely intervention, but only if the ones you want to encourage are personal friends. As Willa has stated, it really should only be broached if and when the couple are seeking help. Be encouraged Corletta in your desire to reach out, but I would encourage to you to exercise wisdom, in prayer, before you venture forth, as always, I hope this helps, God bless.

I must be missing something, the OP said ENCOURAGE marrieds, not rebuke them or disciple them.
