STUDD Two little lines I heard one day, Traveling along life’s busy way; Bringing conviction to my heart, And from my mind would not depart; Only one life, ’twill soon be past, Only what’s done for Christ will last. Only one life, yes only one, Soon will its fleeting hours be done; Then, in ‘that day’ my Lord to meet, And stand before His Judgement seat; Only one life,’twill soon be past, Only what’s done for Christ will last. Only one life, the still small voice, Gently pleads for a better choice Bidding me selfish aims to leave, And to God’s holy will to cleave; Only one life, ’twill soon be past, Only what’s done for Christ will last. Only one life, a few brief years, Each with its burdens, hopes, and fears; Each with its clays I must fulfill, living for self or in His will; Only one life, ’twill soon be past, Only what’s done for Christ will last. When this bright world would tempt me sore, When Satan would a victory score; When self would seek to have its way, Then help me Lord with joy to say; Only one life, ’twill soon be past, Only what’s done for Christ will last. Give me Father, a purpose deep, In joy or sorrow Thy word to keep; Faithful and true what e’er the strife, Pleasing Thee in my daily life; Only one life, ’twill soon be past, Only what’s done for Christ will last. Oh let my love with fervor burn, And from the world now let me turn; Living for Thee, and Thee alone, Bringing Thee pleasure on Thy throne; Only one life, “twill soon be past, Only what’s done for Christ will last. Only one life, yes only one, Now let me say,”Thy will be done”; And when at last I’ll hear the call, I know I’ll say “twas worth it all”; Only one life,’twill soon be past, Only what’s done for Christ will last. ” — extra stanza — Only one life, ’twill soon be past, Only what’s done for Christ will last. And when I am dying, how happy I’ll be, If the lamp of my life has been burned out for Thee.

So let us heed only the Lord the King and Heed not Rome , that wicked being For only the name of Christ can save so heed not the inclusive rave For only IN CHRIST is the road to our HOME thus let all that has breath flee from Rome For only power she desires in her heart thus from the sway of Rome let all depart .

And when I am dying, how happy I’ll be, If the lamp of my life has been burned out for Thee. Hi Turtletwo, very good poem, thank you for posting it, so many truths spoken here. That such a heart would be in all of us. I couldn’t agree more with the sentiments. Loved the line; “living for self or in His will” made my heart jump. But if you would bare with me for a minute, and allow me to be a poop-butt for a moment. The line, “only what is done for Christ will last” gave me pause. Wished it had said; “only what’s done in Christ will last” For Christ wants none of our works. Only for us to deny our own wills (deny self) that He might live His life in and through us. I’m sure that is what the author meant. Forgive me for being such a poop-butt. I just got a small red flag over the word “for”. Blessings, (maybe it’s just me) Much love in Christ, Not me Edited December 17, 2018 by Not me

I appreciate your nice comments about it. 4 hours ago, Not me said: Wished it had said; “only what’s done in Christ will last” I understand the point that you are making. 4 hours ago, Not me said: I’m sure that is what the author meant. I agree. I believe it was. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt that as a recipient of grace (not works) based salvation, when he wrote 'for', he thought of it in a sense synonymous with 'in' and 'through.' Myself- I inadvertently sometimes use 'in Christ', 'through Christ' and 'for Christ' interchangeably. But I know that I'm meaning the same things with each word. For I'm ever aware that "without him I can do nothing." (John 15:5) However, I know "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." (Phil 4:13) So whenever I do something 'for' Christ I am actually doing it 'in' Him and 'through' Him. 4 hours ago, Not me said: For Christ wants none of our works. I see 'in his will' tying in with 'in him.' So I don't see a contradiction. I'd like to add this final thought, from my perspective... In a personal relationship with the Lord, love is the heart of it all. "If ye love me, keep my commandments.” (John 14:15) I see obedience as being an overflow of my love for Him. It's just something that happens. I don't think about it. Even as a tree producing fruit is a natural consequence of being in the vine. So when I say 'for'...my heart is actually meaning 'in' and 'through.' Because of love. I hope I've shed some light on this legitimate concern of yours and set your mind more at ease? God bless. P.S. poopy-butt gave me a hearty chuckle, btw. Thanks. "A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person’s strength."
