Allegance to the state. Pastor cannot endorse a candidate that is anti abortion. If he does, he'll lose bis tax exempt status.

A lot of money lost.

Actually Pastors are trying to get the IRS to challenge them in court so they are speaking out -- and the IRS doesn't want to go to court because they know they'll lose.

Erik Stanley, legal counsel for the Alliance Defending Freedom, said a lawsuit is exactly what his group was looking for when it launched the Pulpit Freedom Sunday initiative in 2008 to challenge the Johnson Amendment, the part of the tax code that requires nonprofit groups not to engage in political speech as a condition of that status.

Also, the House is trying to deal with the Johnson Amendment as we speak.  :)

???

Pastor's in my church and in my area are not tax-exempt. They pay taxes, FICA, insurance, and more.

A church, an organization, can be tax-exempt as a non-profit organization.  Meaning the trustees are not paid.  Non-profits can hire pastors, janitors, or whomever.  But they must take all kinds of withholdings from their checks.

If churches were NOT a 501C3, all the monies that the members give for missions, world hunger, prison ministries, repairs on the buildings, and much more would be heavily taxed.

My pastor tells everyone to check the beliefs of candidates running and vote for the one most Biblical.
