The Bible says "Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast. ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them. under their feet, and turn again and rend you."  Matthew 7.

There comes a point when our time and effort is better spent elsewhere or on others.

How do we determine when is that time?

Honestly, it has to be led of the Spirit.  But because of the Lord's patience with me, I probably go the extra distance to reach the lost.  :)

Welcome to Worthy :)

I agree with George , the Holy Spirit will let you know of when to talk to people ,He will prompt you, when people are mocking God it's sometimes better to stop talking to them, pray for them and ask the Holy Spirit to let you know of when to talk to that person again, never be rude to them, be kind, so they can see your heavenly Father through you.

Matthew 5:16

16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

I see at times when questions are asked and either more will follow or answer ignored.... when ignored it pretty much is a one sided conversation. A truly seeking person will continue to ask questions as they have no agenda masked as a seeker.... for at least they will comment on an answer as to why they think it isn't right.

I more or less agree in a "makes sense / is common sense" sort of mindset.

The only danger in this is God Who 'IS' beyond our sense... when we rely upon ourselves we can exclude God Who see's all, knows all, does all.... I always function in the need of Him to direct my steps as I have been shown I can be an idiot
