Personally think the falling away was the early church condition. Paul mentions trouble was coming, John in Rev. mention the troubles coming on the churches. Jesus said he would remove Ephesus church if they didn't repent.

Greetings to all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ,

BG, the falling away (2Thes 2:3), that Paul says must come before the day of Christ is near in time, is the departure from the faith that Jesus said would take place prior to His coming. Jesus said, "then shall many be offended" (Matt 24:10). Like those who received the seed into the stony ground (Matt 13:20-21), when they shall experience unprecedented persecution for His "name's sake" they will fall away. He also said that many would be deceived by the false prophets who will show great signs and wonders (Matt 24:11, 24).

The falling away is the notable departure from the faith of many if not most of those who "call themselves Christians." Any apostasy that has been witnessed over the past 2000 years is insignificant as an identifiable sign that Christ's return for us is at hand. The falling away is future. It will take place after the abomination of desolation when the world worships the Beast.

Glory be to Jesus Christ

Do you believe that the reformation was of God or of man ?

Greetings to all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ,

BG, any true repentance which involves an increase in faithfulness to the will of God as revealed in the Holy Scriptures I can't help but believe is the result of the reproving work of the Holy Spirit. The extent to which the reformation brought men closer to the truth in understanding and practice was from God. The aspects of it which were contrary to His revealed will were no doubt of man or demons.

That's my opinion.

Glory be to Jesus Christ

Martin Luther with all his flaws, was used by God to restore awareness of a truth the Catholic hierarchy had nearly stamped out.  Every move of God is resisted by satan and his minions and suffers from the flaws of the messengers.  But He is able to finish perfect work with imperfect tools.

Well its just a thought that if God was restoring something thru the reformation, then something has fallen from the original .

if the church has been progressing from the time the reformation started, then it must has fallen from the truth it once had.

Paul said in 2Thess. that iniquity was already working in the church and he said in Acts 20 wolves would come in , he said in Galatians that someone preaching another gospel and Jesus

The everlasting gospel angel is suppose to be taking place, so it does not seem to go away ever again until everyone is converted, which is another about 1,000 years away when everything is done.

I failed to say so but the specific truth i meant was 'saved by grace, through faith'.  The Papacy had all but replaced that with a works based theology when Martin Luther was set in motion.  There was a good bit more but in my mind  that was the most immediate and the most critical at the time.
