You area mistaken on almost every point.  You are right that from verse 36 on it is no longer about Antiochus. But neither is it about Herod. It is about the man of sin that will turn into the Beast of Rev. 13, The same person as the Little Horn of Daniel 7. Many today call Him Antichrist. And in spite of what you think or imagine, this man will divide the future 70th week when he enters the Jewish temple.

Shalom, iamlamad.

Well, that's the party line, now, isn't it? EXCEPT, that Daniel 9 tells us that it will be the REAL Messiah who splits the 70th Seven in two! And, He did so in Matthew 23:38!

Follow this closely (and try not to shake your head, but really listen and consider how closely it follows the Scriptures):

Daniel 9:24-27 (KJV)

24 Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city,...
(1) to finish the transgression (DONE), and
(2) to make an end of sins (DONE), and
(3) to make reconciliation for iniquity (DONE), and
(4) to bring in everlasting righteousness (NOT DONE, YET), and
(5) to seal up the vision and prophecy (NOT DONE, YET), and
(6) to anoint the most Holy (NOT DONE, YET).

25 Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks (7 x 7 = 49 years), and threescore and two weeks (3 x 20 + 2 = 62 weeks; 62 x 7 = 434 years): the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times. 26 And after (NOT "at the end of") threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people [of the prince that shall come] shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.

27 And ...

he (the Messiah in vs. 26) shall confirm the covenant (the DAVIDIC Covenant; the KINGSHIP DYNASTY Covenant, 2 Samuel 7:4-17; 1 Chronicles 17:1-15, where it calls the Messiah-to-be-King the "Son of God") with many for one week (1 x 7 = 7 years): and ...

in the midst (middle) of the week (1/2 x 7 = 3.5 years) he (the Messiah in vs. 26) shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease (Hebrews 10:1-22), and ...

for the overspreading of abominations he (the Messiah in vs. 26) shall make it desolate, even until the consummation (the conclusion; the END, Matthew 23:1-39), and that determined (decided as a court sentencing) shall be poured upon the desolate.

Matthew 23:1-39 (KJV)

1 Then spake Jesus to the multitude, and to his disciples, 2 Saying,

"The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat (authority): 3 All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not. 4 For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers. 5 But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries (forehead memory verse boxes), and enlarge the borders of their garments (lengthen the tsittsits of their taliyts), 6 And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues, 7 And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, 'Rabbi, Rabbi.' 8 But be not ye called 'Rabbi': for one is your 'Master', even Christ (the Messiah); and all ye are brethren. 9 And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven. 10 Neither be ye called masters (teachers): for one is your Master, even Christ (the Messiah). 11 But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant. 12 And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.

13 But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.

14 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation.

15 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.

16 Woe unto you, ye blind guides, which say, Whosoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor! 17 Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctifieth the gold? 18 And, Whosoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whosoever sweareth by the gift that is upon it, he is guilty. 19 Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifieth the gift? 20 Whoso therefore shall swear by the altar, sweareth by it, and by all things thereon. 21 And whoso shall swear by the temple, sweareth by it, and by him that dwelleth therein. 22 And he that shall swear by heaven, sweareth by the throne of God, and by him that sitteth thereon.

23 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone. 24 Ye blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel.

25 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess. 26 Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.

27 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness. 28 Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.

29 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and garnish the sepulchres of the righteous, 30 And say, 'If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.' 31 Wherefore ye be witnesses unto yourselves, that ye are the children of them which killed the prophets. 32 Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers. 33 Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?

34 Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city: 35 That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar. 36 Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation.

37O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!

38 Behold, your house is left unto you desolate. 39For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, 'Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.'"

I don't quite see where it says anything about an Antiochus.

Instead, verse 35 says those of understanding are made white and purified.

So tell us.How were those mentioned in verse 35 cleaned? What sacrifice was provided for their sins, so that they were pronouced clean in God's eyes?

Shalom, Shilohsfoal.

Study history, my brother, and you will. One who doesn't know about history can take a course on Ancient History of the Middle East and find out these things. Again, "Those who don't learn that a prophecy was fulfilled in history are DOOMED to believe that the prophecy must be fulfilled in the future."

Ever hear of a "red heifer?" The blood of a red heifer was how the Temple and the Altar were cleansed. Once they were cleansed, then one could bring sacrifices to the Altar once again, and God would accept them for the year. That's how it was done in the priesthood of Israel before the Messiah arrived.

I disagree with the words you added to Daniel 9:27.  You are not following the rules of pronouns. The people of the prince (Jesus) was not who destroyed Jerusalem and tore down the temple.  It was Titus and his soldiers that tore down the temple. The "he" would refer back to Titus or a man in his position. Jesus made no 7 year covenant: his covenants are forever.

However, neither I nor anyone else can convince you of your error, ONLY the Holy Spirit can, and He ONLY if you are open.

Shalom, iamlamad.

No, you're mixing the "Messiah" with the "prince," who was Titus of Rome, who, as you said, "destroyed Jerusalem and tore down the Temple." "Jesus" is NOT the "prince." And, let's talk about "the rules of pronouns":

A pronoun in the same sentence as its antecedent MUST have its antecedent as one of the key nouns of the sentence, either as a subject, a direct object, or an indirect object. And, that noun CANNOT be within a PREPOSITIONAL PHRASE! We have such a prepositional phrase in the statement, "the people [of the prince that shall come] shall destroy the city and the sanctuary." That's what the highlighted square brackets were all about in what I wrote before! That prepositional phrase, starting with the preposition "of," CANNOT contain the noun that would be used as the antecedent for the verbs of the same sentence!

Now, let's talk about the actual Hebrew of these verses:

In Hebrew, we have a similar construct called a "noun construct state." Within this noun construct state, you will have two (or more) nouns placed back to back and the first noun is the primary noun that can act as a subject or an object. The second noun is subordinate to the first, and in translation is translated with the word "of" between them. The second noun CANNOT be the subject or an object of the sentence! We have such a noun construct state in verse 26, "`am naagiyd," translated as "[the] people of-[the]-prince." Thus, "naagiyd " CANNOT be the noun that would be used as the antecedent for the verbs of the same sentence!

Also, in Hebrew, the sentence doesn't end at the "end" of verse 26! It continues into verse 27, since there are NO subject nouns in verse 27, only the verbs that IMPLY a pronoun! Therefore, these verbs stem back to the nearest masculine, singular noun in verse 26 capable of being the antecedent, "maashiyach," translated as "Messiah."

---

Actually, Yeshua` DID evoke a "seven-year covenant," by submitting to His baptism. What were the words of God the Father He heard? Here they are in all four Gospels:

Matthew 3:17 (KJV)

17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

Mark 1:11 (KJV)

11 And there came a voice from heaven, saying, Thou art my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

Luke 3:22 (KJV)

22 And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.

John 1:34 (KJV)

34 And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.

You may not understand all the ramifications of this statement, but this is a fulfillment of the prophecy that God made to David:

2 Samuel 7:8-17 (KJV)

8 Now therefore so shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, from following the sheep, to be ruler over my people, over Israel: 9 And I was with thee whithersoever thou wentest, and have cut off all thine enemies out of thy sight, and have made thee a great name, like unto the name of the great men that are in the earth. 10 Moreover I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in a place of their own, and move no more; neither shall the children of wickedness afflict them any more, as beforetime, 11 And as since the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel, and have caused thee to rest from all thine enemies. Also the LORD telleth thee that he will make thee an house. 12 And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom. 13 He shall build an house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom for ever. 14 I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men: 15 But my mercy shall not depart away from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before thee. 16 And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever.

17 According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak unto David.

This is also recorded in 1 Chronicles:

1 Chronicles 17:3-15 (KJV)

3 And it came to pass the same night, that the word of God came to Nathan, saying,

4 Go and tell David my servant, Thus saith the LORD, Thou shalt not build me an house to dwell in: 5 For I have not dwelt in an house since the day that I brought up Israel unto this day; but have gone from tent to tent, and from onetabernacle to another. 6 Wheresoever I have walked with all Israel, spake I a word to any of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to feed my people, saying, Why have ye not built me an house of cedars? 7 Now therefore thus shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, even from following the sheep, that thou shouldest be ruler over my people Israel: 8 And I have been with thee whithersoever thou hast walked, and have cut off all thine enemies from before thee, and have made thee a name like the name of the great men that are in the earth. 9 Also I will ordain a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, and they shall dwell in their place, and shall be moved no more; neither shall the children of wickedness waste them any more, as at the beginning, 10 And since the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel. Moreover I will subdue all thine enemies. Furthermore I tell thee that the LORD will build thee an house. 11 And it shall come to pass, when thy days be expired that thou must go to be with thy fathers, that I will raise up thy seed after thee, which shall be of thy sons; and I will establish his kingdom. 12 He shall build me an house, and I will stablish his throne for ever. 13 I will be his father, and he shall be my son: and I will not take my mercy away from him, as I took it from him that was before thee: 14 But I will settle him in mine house and in my kingdom for ever: and his throne shall be established for evermore.

15 According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak unto David.

You probably don't see the "seven years" here, but they are found in David's reign:

1 Kings 2:10-11 (KJV)

10 So David slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David. 11 And the days that David reigned over Israel were forty years: seven years reigned he in Hebron, and thirty and three years reigned he in Jerusalem.

1 Chronicles 29:26-27 (KJV)

26 Thus David the son of Jesse reigned over all Israel. 27 And the time that he reigned over Israel was forty years; seven years reigned he in Hebron, and thirty and three years reigned he in Jerusalem.

And, his time in Hevron ("Hebron") was as king of his own tribe, Yhudah ("Judah"):

2 Samuel 2:11 (KJV)

11 And the time that David was king in Hebron over the house of Judah was seven years and six months.

Thus, David was "king of the Jews" for 7 years before he became King of all Israel.

Yeshua` was born to be "King of the Jews," and the epitaph on His cross read "King of the Jews." His reign over His own people - His own tribe - the tribe of Yhudah ("Judah") - the Jews - was never accepted by the tribe's leaders and elders and His offer of the Kingdom was INTERRUPTED by His crucifixion! For 3.5 years, He offered the Kingdom to His own people, and they rejected Him. He has 3.5 years to go.....

Within this noun construct state, you will have two (or more) nouns placed back to back and the first noun is the primary noun that can act as a subject or an object.

You can quote the whole bible. I still will not believe you. There are many people who have translated the entire bible: experts on both Hebrew and Greek that disagree with you. Then we have John writing Revelation  - a book that contains the entire 70th week - proving your theory wrong.

I was wondering how an English translation of the Greek Septuagint would read, so here it is.

25 And thou shalt know and understand, that from the going forth of the command for the answer and for the building of Jerusalem until Christ the prince there shall be seven weeks, and sixty-two weeks; and then the time shall return, and the street shall be built, and the wall, and the times shall be exhausted.

26 And after the sixty-two weeks, the anointed one shall be destroyed, and there is no judgment in him: and he shall destroy the city and the sanctuary with the prince that is coming: they shall be cut off with a flood, and to the end of the war which is rapidly completed he shall appoint the city to desolations.

27 And one week shall establish the covenant with many: and in the midst of the week my sacrifice and drink-offering shall be taken away: and on the temple shall be the abomination of desolations; and at the end of time an end shall be put to the desolation.

Shalom, iamlamad.

So, it's better going from Hebrew to Greek to English than taking it straight from the Hebrew? Ever hear of "informational thermodynamics?"

Regarding your comment, "You can quote the whole bible. I still will not believe you," there's a word for that, y'know. It's called "stubbornness"? God led me to the things I believe. Regardless, what you think about them, I know they work, they mesh together flawlessly, and they're better than anything else I've seen from the theologs, no matter what position they hold.

Enjoy your belief-system and stand by your motto. "Ignorance is bliss."

Not at all: I was just curious. You can send digs or pokes at me all you wish: I have Rhino skin.

It is not stubbornness: it is when I look at the EXPERTS who have translated these verses - people expert enough to translate the entire bible, they disagree with your translation. Sorry, but I will go with them every time.  I can only ask: who are you? Where is your bible translation?

By the way, stubbornness is good when you are right and someone is trying to convince you to believe an error. It is an absolute fact: your translation of Daniel does not fit Revelation. Revelation is a much later revelation and it is much more complete. Wisdom decrees we form out doctrine from the most complete revelation, then fill in missing pieces from lessor scriptures. The truth is, the 70th week is IN the book of Revelation, proving your take on Daniel is a myth.

Flawlessly? Another myth. Oh, may well be true in your mind!

Just so you can know, and have no excuse: the 70th week in Revelation is marked by 7's: the 7th seal starts the week, the 7th vial ends the week, and the 7th trumpet marks the midpoint. There it is, clearly laid out and marked. But you won't believe it for your preconceptions will not allow it.
