the reason why moses told the jews not to eat pigs is because it wasn't part of their natural diet and if u eat any animal that's not part of your natural diet it can make u ill, which it did to them in Hosea, likewise our western culture doesn't eat cats and dogs but many eastern cultures do, clean and unclean is just as much about culture and health as religion.

Hi, Hard for me to buy into that one, sorry. Clean and unclean  was a matter of obedience to God's command. It did not need any further justification. It became obedience to the further interpretations of rabbis and of rabbinic law.

I have even heard and read of one man that ate only locusts along with honey,- by command of God. Bet that was not  of his culture nor natural diet.

I can eat of most anything that doesn't eat me first. It does not have to be of my common diet.  So I can't buy into the conclusion that anything not of my natural diet will make me ill.

What will make me seriously ill even physically is to buy into any food for my spirit and soul that is not of God's will for me.

The Leviticus law regarding meat in old testament times was that animals were required to have both split hooves and chew the cud.  The pig, while it has split hooves, does not chew the cud.

it also eats anything and carries parasites in it's meat.   It truly is not clean food.     At least today we have better processing procedures and cures for the parasites if you get them.

It seems the dietary laws do translate over to spiritual food for the Christian. Appy mentioned the chewing of the cud and pigs do not do that. Love the law of the Lord and meditate on it day and night. That isn't some mantra for spiritual awakening but becoming intimate with the word, memorizing and understanding it's meaning. Chew on it for a while.

Anyway, ever notice the clean birds nest on the ground and the unclean in the trees?

Jesus said he is the manna from heaven, the bread of life. Our spiritual diet is the word of God and false teaching is aged road kill. I believe it's the spiritual meaning behind Daniel standing on the dietary laws and his buddies were able to stand and not bow to the image.

There are practical aspects to the laws and maybe we don't experience this much today because of multi-culturalism and easy travel. But there are spiritual meanings to these things. The Jews had physical wars, our wars are spiritual battles. They had a physical temple, we have a spiritual house, we are the temple of God. They had a city, a nation, we are like Abraham on a journey looking for a city built of God. Their deitary laws were physical, we are to eat the bread of life, "The word became flesh and dwelt among us." Our dietary law concerns spiritual food.

It's one thing to study false things for refuting the teaching with some knowledge and skill but another to digest and assimilate the message. It's spiritually unhealthy. The devil knows this and why Jesus warned of false teaching more than anything else in the Olivet Discourse Matth 24.

Now the apostles and the brothers who were throughout Judea heard that the Gentiles also had received the word of God.  So when Peter went up to Jerusalem, the circumcision party criticized him, saying,  “You went to uncircumcised men and ate with them.”  But Peter began and explained it to them in order:  “I was in the city of Joppa praying, and in a trance I saw a vision, something like a great sheet descending, being let down from heaven by its four corners, and it came down to me.  Looking at it closely, I observed animals and beasts of prey and reptiles and birds of the air.  And I heard a voice saying to me, ‘Rise, Peter; kill and eat.' But I said, ‘By no means, Lord; for nothing common or unclean has ever entered my mouth.’  But the voice answered a second time from heaven, ‘What God has made clean, do not call common.’ This happened three times, and all was drawn up again into heaven. And behold, at that very moment three men arrived at the house in which we were, sent to me from Caesarea.  And the Spirit told me to go with them, making no distinction. These six brothers also accompanied me, and we entered the man's house. And he told us how he had seen the angel stand in his house and say, ‘Send to Joppa and bring Simon who is called Peter;  he will declare to you a message by which you will be saved, you and all your household.’  As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on them just as on us at the beginning.  And I remembered the word of the Lord, how he said, ‘John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’  If then God gave the same gift to them as he gave to us when we believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I that I could stand in God's way?” When they heard these things they fell silent. And they glorified God, saying, “Then to the Gentiles also God has granted repentance that leads to life.”

Thank the Lord I have any understanding at all. Pray for God to lead you into truth and healthy discipleship. Not sure what it's like where you live but some areas are hurting for healthy teaching and fellowship. But to stay in context with this message, eat good food.
