Thanks, Michael. I have long suspected that the "fallen nature" is the old Adam spirit - what Paul called "the old man" -  and not in the flesh at all.

Yes. That is an astute observation given that the term "flesh" is used to mean both our physical body and our sinful motives to be "put off", so that the Lord Jesus Christ can be "put on".

Rom 13:12-14
(12)  The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light.
(13)  Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy.
(14)  But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.

had He not BECOME sin for our sakes on the cross, He would not have been subject to death at all.

Amen, Jostler. Everything else both temporal and eternal is relative to the death, resurrection, and ascencion of Christ.

Col 1:15-23
(15)  He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.
(16)  For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.
(17)  And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.
(18)  And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence.
(19)  For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell,
(20)  and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross.
(21)  And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled
(22)  in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight—
(23)  if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard, which was preached to every creature under heaven, of which I, Paul, became a minister.

Jesus was born of the holy spirit. He had not the fallen nature of Adam. He  also was God in the flesh. So it was impossible for him to sin. But like Adam he could be tempted.  Yet without sin because he was righteous in heart. He learn how to refuse the bad. That happen when he was a child.

Right on, Wayne222. Cool man.

2Co 5:21 For he has made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
Heb 4:15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
Heb 7:26  For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;
1Pe 2:21-23
(21)  For even hereunto were you called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow his steps:
(22)  Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:
(23)  Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judges righteously:
