I am presenting what I have learned, to aide in considering who, and what is being spoken of in Biblical passages. I am posting to offer my insight as an aide to stimulate Bible study, to stimulate a deeper Bible study to grasp the wisdom and richness of scripture. Challenge me if I am in error. I am writing to prevent error, which could impact a daily walk. I write for consideration only, it can be rejected at will. A sheep’s only chance of survival is with the flock under the care of a competent shepherd. Yet sheep become overconfident, rebellious, or distracted, and they wander away. They spy greener grass in the other direction or fail to notice when the flock moves away. Peter had this tendency in mind when he warned the church to be on the alert because the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour (1 Peter 5:8). A lion does not attack the flock. It waits until a solitary lamb wanders too far from the shepherd. One of Jesus’ most famous parables is about a lamb that strayed so far it became lost. Israel is in view Matthew 15:24 But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel. Israel is in view In the Bible, sheep are a literal reference to Israel, but that does not prohibit finding comfort in applying spiritual blessings of passages to ourselves. Yes, you are correct, Paul didn't use the words born again, ...but Peter did: Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 1 Pet 1:3 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. 1 Pet 1:23 It's the same word, ...if you don't believe me look it up in Strong's Concordance. However, Paul was saying the same thing in these verses: Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. 2 Cor 5:17 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature. Gal 6:15 So you say you are in Christ, ...but are not born again, ...here's what Paul says about that: Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
