In the Apostle Paul's day, women marched in topless protest of the treatment of women in Corinth. Temple / shrine prostitutes in "the oldest profession" were existent in Judah's day (which he mistook his daughter-in-law Tamar as one). So it would be ignorant to believe we live in the only time sex has saturated the public square... or that it is worse today than ever before. What makes it stand out today is not only the consequences of it... but how only a couple generations ago we lived in a much less sex saturated society. And that is thanks to evangelizing the lost to the point that the majority expected biblical principles be enforced. There was a time, about a century ago or a little longer, that the construction of the tower stairwells at Southwestern University (Georgetown, Texas) were built so that women using the stairs did not display their ankles. My Beloved Wife used to work there in the 1990's. On that same campus was coed dorms, all but stark nudity, and the pressure to officially recognize homosexual groups on campus. One preacher used to quip (several decades ago) that tomorrow's fashions for women in Church are on display today... in the red light districts of America. Prophetic. Desensitization is the false prophet to the beast of lust. We give in to lust and we get desensitized that much more until one day we are enslaved to the most vile forms of lust imaginable. Fashion is no different. Sexual content in books, magazines, billboards, TV, and movies (not to mention the internet) all subject to the beast (lust) and the false prophet (desensitization). Having said all this, there is no sin (except unbelief in Jesus) that God's Grace cannot forgive and save us from... in the eternal perspective. You give in to lust and desensitization enough and it will cost you your home, your family, your career, your reputation, your health, your life... Oh, but you will still be saved, if you believe in Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 5:5 (NIV84) 5 hand this man over to Satan, so that the sinful nature may be destroyed and his spirit saved on the day of the Lord. This was Paul's response to a man in the church at Corinth who "had his father's wife." You do the math. Oh what things we often forfeit, oh what needless pain we bear... all because we... The song says take things to the Lord in prayer, but I believe we bring more hell upon ourselves in this life than we would otherwise have by NOT heeding and obeying the Lord's commands to protect us. Lust and desensitization are two particularly evil ones spoken of many times in Proverbs, 1 Corinthians 6 and 7, Ephesians 5 and many many more. Fallen sin natured human beings have a particular weakness in these areas. We used to outlaw things that people were too weak to handle. Sex*, drugs, gambling. *outside of the marital relationship Now it's all up for grabs. Well, actually no. Sorry Joe Biden and Donald Trump and many more who put their paws where they didn't belong!
