Well, apparently there is an ostrich ranch up in the foothills of the Sierra mountains, not too far from home here in the valley. Stopping at a restaurant, I saw ostrich burgers on the menu, so I thought of giving it a try. Yes, you can imagine it does taste like chicken. Apparently, and according to the server, it has almost no fat content at all. Which is no doubt true, because some of the flavor of this burger lacked flavor, and was also a little on the tough side, due to its 99% fat-free status. Doubtful if I'd go for it again, but that's as brave as it gets! Can you imagine the drumsticks on one of these things? haha! God bless! Haha… shell fish and yes they do smell if they are not very fresh ( just as fish do ) They are collected from the sand with a short pronged rake then left to soak in fresh water overnight or washed several times ( as children we used to leave a string across the bowl just in the water and by the morning you would have a cockle necklace ) Then they are put into a saucepan and boiled with a tiny amount of water and they are ready to eat as soon as they fall out of the shell... google to find pictures Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
