My favorite breakfast sandwich is bacon, fried egg and cheese on toast. I love bacon :D

It was also my mom's favorite, rest her sweet soul. So, what was my most odd item eaten? Well, apparently there is an ostrich ranch up in the foothills of the Sierra mountains, not too far from home here in the valley. Stopping at a restaurant, I saw ostrich burgers on the menu, so I thought of giving it a try. Yes, you can imagine it does taste like chicken. Apparently, and according to the server, it has almost no fat content at all. Which is no doubt true, because some of the flavor of this burger lacked flavor, and was also a little on the tough side, due to its 99% fat-free status. Doubtful if I'd go for it again, but that's as brave as it gets! Can you imagine the drumsticks on one of these things? haha! God bless!

Shalom,

This is apparently true, but a few here on this thread are a bit questionable. Note: This ostrich burger was just a one time experience. God bless!

My dad, when I was nine years old, decided that pork shouldn't be eaten based primarily on scriptural belief, but also couldn't stand the thought of eating all the worms

Do you eat fish?   Fruit. Meat  Vegetables?
If yes, you have eaten worms, dead or alive.
Not just pork.
Look it up. (after you eat).....

I always wondered … what are cockles?  are they good?  What color are they?  lol!

what do they smell like? Haha…

They are shellfish, perhaps similar to eating clams and/or oysters? The smell would be what ever is decided it would be smothered in I suppose. ( giggles ) Not sure it's something I would like. God bless!

shell fish and yes they do smell if they are not very fresh ( just as fish do ) They are collected from the sand with a short pronged rake then left to soak in fresh water overnight or washed several times ( as children we used to leave a string across the bowl just in the water and by the morning you would have a cockle necklace ) Then they are put into a saucepan and boiled with a tiny amount of water and they are ready to eat as soon as they fall out of the shell... google to find pictures

Begging your pardon m'lady, but even with fresh fish & chips, which are eaten on vacations along the central coast here, I enjoy them with a blend of ketchup and cocktail sauce. God bless!

:headphones: one may use red sauce on fish and chips or even if one must cocktail sauce ( one  trusts you use a plate and not the traditional newspaper to convey your dish ) but never on cockles sirrah :foot-stomp:
