Hello, I’ve been addicted to porn and masturbation for a long time and I can’t stop. How can I stop this evil sin and what can I do for gods forgiveness?

Here's a scripture that gives real-life answers for sexual sins.  You can remember it by all the "2's".

2 Timothy 2:22 - "So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart."

[1]  FLEE - Purposefully run from the porn.  If you have to literally run into the next room.  Get away from it.  Even if you have to get into the presence of another person.  Flee means to get away from something on purpose and with great urgency.  Even you have to say outloud, "This is a sin and I am harming my body and my relationship with God.  Help me Jesus."

[2] PURSUE - If you run FROM something and not TO something, you will circle back and run exactly to the thing you are trying to get away from.  King Solomon in the book of Proverbs said that was just like a dog running back to his own vomit to eat it.  Gross, huh!  You must have something to run to that is as this scripture says "righteous, faithful, and of love".  It can be the Bible, Christian music, a good friend, a place of helping others, a place of prayer, and more.

[3] ALONG WITH - You must find some Christian friends, of a pure heart, who can support you.  The more you tell someone in your real life what a battle you are going through, the less power sin holds over you.  The devil wants you to think that people in your real life will scorn you, tell the world, and look at you as a pervert.  Close family and friends who love you won't do that.  You need prayer warriors in real life.  Not a crowd of people, but just a few you can trust TO pray for you and hold you accountable in a way that you design that with them.  The best friend you can count on is Jesus Christ.  Turn to him, time and time again.  Lean on him for help.

Set your antivirus/firewall to see you as an 8 year old girl and to block everything offensive/harmful to such a child.

Get rid of all printed material, pictures etc and start to develop different habits, spending less time on the net is one, working at a corrispondence course or getting out and volunteering to help at church, at charities.

You don't do anything for Gods forgiveness you ask for it, if you are a Christian.

I’ve been addicted

Shalom Ryan,

Thank you for sharing so honestly and bravely. Surely the Father will see your willingness to change in your post, it reflects your heart.  The Father can forgive you for this, without doubt, if you repent.

Now, if it is an addiction, it might make you feel that repentance is disingenuous.  So try to look at it this way...

First of all, no longer call this ailment and addiction.  Addiction is a mad-made term to justify repetitive actions and to victimise themselves somewhat.  I'm not saying that addictive traits do not exist, of course they do.  I mean that in identifying a problem and naming it as an "addiction", psychologically puts you on the back foot, and makes the hurdle seem much bigger to you than it actually is. So stop it! :)

Secondly, continue with repentance.  Even if you feel that you may fall again, that's no excuse to not repent and try.  Because it will be a lot easier for you to fall again if you don't even repent after.  Repenting is for Yahweh to hear and also for you to hear yourself - to sober you up in the light of "after".  So it's important to do.

Thirdly, try to transform your mind by filling it with Scripture.  If you find it hard to read the Word, get a good audio Bible.  Read or play it as much as possible.  It might not seem to have an affect on you but constant filling of the Word will have a transformative affect, fact.  Only do not stay just in the New Testament, as some Christians do.  Absorb the WHOLE Word.  It's all relevant to you.

Fourthly, consider seriously the way the enemy has enticed men of God with sexuality.  Throughout the Bible you will find examples of this.  The most prominent one I want to draw to your attention is Balaam's Advice in the Book of Numbers.  When the enemy could not beat Israel with persecution, idol worship, or incorrect doctrine - he used sex to draw them away.  And it worked.  Sex will often pull men of God away unfortunately and the enemy knows that.  If you will then feel compounded with shame and disgust to serve God thereafter, even better for the enemies purposes.  Try to see pornography as the deception that Balaam advised to send you to make you less useful.

Fifthly, I would advise to read Romans 7:7-8:88 very carefully.  Paul is talking about a similar issue in this passage.  In summary, he is saying "I do things that inside I don't want to do.  It's like the flesh has one goal and my spirit has another.  Because I want to do what's good but end up doing evil.  However, if I think that, I'm showing that my spirit wants Yahweh's ways and my wretched flesh just wants endless satisfaction".   The flesh is very selfish, it cares not what your spirit wants at all.  It longs to be satisfied with sleep, food, comfort and pleasure, whatever the cost to your spirit.  My brother, this is the great battle.  Who will we let take the "driver's seat" in our life?  The flesh which seeks for itself? Or the spirit which seeks for Yahweh's will and caring for others?

My final advice would be to take away the problem's power.  When the thoughts, desires or images appear in your mind, shut it down right away by thinking "No, be gone".  DON'T try to reason with the thoughts, be logical about the matter or mentally argue against the thoughts.  Your flesh will beat you every time because your flesh knows how you think, how to convince you, how to temporarily perverse logic and all your weaknesses.  Instead, when such convincing arguments or allures arise in your mind, simply think "overruled", like a judge.  Don't entertain the thoughts and they will leave you.

I hope that helps in some way brother.  Stay strong in the spirit and rule over the flesh

Love & Shalom
