Shalom ContinuingCorletta, No, not at all. Rest at ease! This is just one of our pesky fleshy reactions - both fiddling and getting irritated. Instead, distract yourself with theories as to why. Observing: Is it only in certain situations Is it related to a theme of discussion Does it intensify over certain subjects Is it just for physical comfort or does it look like nerves What situations do they do it the least (and what do those situations have in common) That's the old psychologist speaking with me! But, by doing this, it might give you insight as to why and less irritation over the matter. The fiddling will have a cause, reason and affect for them - so you may as well try to understand it out of interest, now that you've already ticked the irritated box I hope it goes well! I think they call that "self-touch as a means of self-comfort". They're nervous, and so they fiddle about. I do it a bit myself. I might rub my fingers together (what I call my invisible "worry token," like i'm rubbing a coin) or more commonly, I stroke my goatee both because it's fun and a less obvious nervous tick. Two answered that day, one yesterday, this will make the second reply for today. I don't see a response, so my my questions are not likely to be seen, unless by some slim chance. But I'll take a swing at the plate, so to speak, with this comment. Then a question or two perhaps. Sounds as if this person either is having some issues with a border-line nervous oriented genetic situation, such as autism. OR it could be an OCD thing, Obsessive Compulsion Disorder. MAYBE. It would be unfortunate to think this person does this intentionally, and to annoy. Now the questions. Have you noticed if by chance, this sort of behavior in the presence of anyone else? If not, as to say no, this person doesn't do this with others, then I suspect he/she is nervous and/or anxious around you. Which brings up the next possible situation. Could it be because you're a Christian, and this person is not? If not, it might be signs of uncomfortable feelings around you, and conviction. Just a thought or two. God bless! It made me tense as well. But there were so many wonderful qualities that dwarfed this habit so I tried to ignore it a forbear it in love. After all, I may have habits that irritate him as well that he must put up with. We overlook the minor stuff sometimes.
