The longer I live the more I realize what the Word of God reveals about

the true nature of humanity... there is none that are good... no not one.

There is a side of us (most of us) that [wants] to be good...

and it can and does fuel the kind acts we sometimes do.

But inside us is a beast that must be disciplined and distrusted and watched with all

diligence.

I often do battle (skirmish) with people (family mostly) who diasgree

and believe there are good people in the world.

My argument is that they are good at containing their beast.

Or that they do so as a habit.

But we fool ourselves if we believe humanity is anything but evil

with potential good at best.

It's true.

The longer you live the more you realize

we romanticize human nature and fall for the deception that

people are basically good

and I'm no worse than the next guy

and everyone can be reached with good.

That last one my beloved wife believed from childhood until she

got a BA in psychology.

Patch Adams is a good movie to watch about how this false belief can end up.

No one is perfect and we are all sinners. The Holy Spirit transforms us into a person that is pleasing to God. We want to be obedient to God and not sin willfully. If we pray and ask God will change us. He is the potter we are the clay. He will change us and shape us into someone He wants us to be.

There are good people in the world. When the bible uses the term there is no one good. It means unblemished. We all have fallen short of Gods glory. But no ones good enough to go to heaven. We all need the cross of christ for our sins. But there are some who are more evil and some who are more good. They each need christ.

I would say good-ish.

I recall the account of a Jewish Massad agent who captured a Nazi war criminal

and brought him back to Nuremberg for trial.

Along the way he was shocked to discover this little man who he envisioned as the devil himself

loved and feared for the safety of his family in Argentina... was rather ordinary... even had severe constipation.

Then the horrible thought occurred to him (the Massad agent)...

ALL humanity can be like this complicated little man (I don't recall which Nazi war criminal it was

but I do know he hanged for his crimes). There but for the grace of God go... us!

I also defer to the testimony of God about the nature of man.

No one good. No not one.

Those that have a New Spirit are the only ones capable of doing good.Sometimes we are blessed and the Spirit Of God Works “ through us”to do good .Everything else is dung.

Christian theologians over the centuries have varying views on the depth of evil and sin in each unsaved human being.  There are some who consider humans as totally depraved having nothing good inside of them.  There are some who view humans as being created in the image of God which has now been corrupted and irreparably damaged but still shows some characteristics of that original image.  Basically it's the difference of whether unsaved humans are like a dung-heap of evil and worthlessness or are like a vandalized and weather-damaged work of art still showing some of the original creation in God's image but in a damaged form.   All the theologians agree that it is only through God reaching out to us through the person and atoning work of Jesus Christ that we can be saved.
