I became somewhat familiar with Armenia and Gregory, because I was discussion the origin of the church, in the apostles etc, with my neighbor. He is Armenian Orthodox. My neighbor is not exactly a scolar, a historian, of a theologian, in fact he got a lots of facts wrong.

However, in looking into it, I discovered that the case can be made surely, that Armenia, was the first state (meaning a independant, sovereign, political entity in the geographic sense) to become  officially Christian. In other words though less precise, we might say that it was the first nation, to adopt Christianity, as it's official state religion.

So, although Christianity was not born in Armenia, it certainly had an ancient impact, on the spread and acceptance  of Christianity as a legitimate religion in the view of the greater world.
