This was in the news today.. Do you think that because the Bible says (2 Tim 3:16-17) 16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for [a]instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. Is the Pope right in doing this? Do you believe he is changing Jesus word?https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/pope-francis-made-this-big-change-to-lords-prayer/ar-AACrehe?ocid=spartandhp

What do bible scholars who know the original language and know the original words of the old copies of the gospel say about the change. Is the word fall a better interpretation and reflection of Jesus' intent than the word lead.

Nothing is to be changed in the word of God, I don't care who it is.

What the pope changes has no effect on me since Im not catholic. He will have to answer for it.

Thayer and Zodihates   say that the word means trial here rather than temptation

(II) Trial, temptation.  (A) A state of trial in which God brings His people through adversity and affliction in order to encourage and prove their faith and confidence in Him (Mat 6:13;  ( This is confirmed in 1 Peter 1.)

G3986   (Word Study)

πειρασμός  peirasmós; gen. peirasmoú, masc. noun from peirázō (G3985), to make trial of, try, tempt. Trial, temptation, a putting to the test, spoken of persons only. When God is the agent, peirasmós is for the purpose of proving someone, never for the purpose of causing him to fall. If it is the devil who tempts, then it is for the purpose of causing one to fall.

The pope may have good intentions but he should have changed the word to trials.  He needed to stick to the meaning of the Greek.  Jesus didn't necessarily speak in Aramaic except in a few places in the NT such as Abba.

It is called paraphrasing, no one has to buy such a Bible, but as it was, it previously seemed to be implying that God leads people to temptation, I think the intent was fine, and likely not off the mark.

“Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:” (James 1:13)

Since God obviously does not tempt man to do evil, this injunction is used in the sense of “permitting” – “Lord, do not allow us to be tempted in such a way that we sin” – “Do not lead us into a trial that will present such a temptation to us that we will not be able to resist it.”

It is a heartfelt appeal to God to protect us from sin. The good news  is that God is able to “save us from the tempter’s power” if we will but call upon Him for help.

1 Cor 10:13 says, " There isn’t any temptation that you have experienced which is unusual for humans. God, who faithfully keeps his promises, will not allow you to be tempted beyond your power to resist. But when you are tempted, he will also give you the ability to endure the temptation as your way of escape."  :)Praise God!

Strong's Concordance
Definition: an experiment, a trial, temptation

Usage: (a) trial, probation, testing, being tried, (b) temptation, (c) calamity, affliction.

HELPS Word-studies

Cognate: 3986 peirasmós (from 3985 /peirázō) –

temptation or test – both senses apply simultaneously (depending on the context). The positive sense ("test") and negative sense ("temptation") are functions of the context (not merely the words themselves).

People have been 'changing' scripture words since forever. The Scribes etc changed the Tanach since they could not accept a Savior 'hanging on a tree'. The 'church fathers' modified the Aramaic and focused on Greek renditions. Much is lost unless you get original text (hard to do but not impossible) and go from there.

The KJV is good, but not perfect - there are many errors.

You do not have to be a scholar to search out the truth. As far as the RCC goes, well, history has shown them up to be exactly what they were in ages past when death was the punishment for even having a portion of scripture.

It is what it is. God is not surprised or bothered by mankind thrashing about.

Make sure your version of scripture is not an idol.
