Hi Neighbor,

I have many favorite Hymn's, but one hymn in particular at the top of my list causes my eyes to swell and tear. It's "sort of" embarrassing for an old grown up man to be wiping away his tears singing "It Is Well With My Soul" in church. Listening and singing that hymn sends chills down my spine and I wondered why?

Copying down the authors name from the hymnal, eventually I got around to looking for the particulars of the author and hymn. WOW! To say I was shocked and in awe would be an understatement of how and where this hymn came to be. Reading it I was thinking about what Job endured. I'm sure you no doubt know the history of this hymn and how it came to be; so the link below is for others if they're interested in this inspired hymn. I believe the Lord inspired Horatio G. Spafford to write and compose that hymn, as it inspired me to learn the testimony of Mr. Spafford and how that hymn came to be.

Yes I too cannot even hear the hymn without tearing.  The words bring serious comfort to me almost instinctively now. For I was brought to Christ through much serious turmoil. The first book I read was Job. To then hear and be led to read of Spafford's life and the resilience of spirit and the health of his soul proclaiming what to me is victory over death the final enemy is just awesome. I grab onto it with a deep seeded comfort that it is well with my soul.  Just doesn't matter the day the plight it brings, it is well regardless there is no challenge that can  defeat the victory extended to you and me in the shed blood of the lord Jesus.

ps- It was the story  of the hymn that got me to studying hymns and hymn writers and turning me about from one that had no use for the  "frivolity" of the opening worship music of congregation meetings. I had thought just give me the facts  talk to me, but don't make me endure  music. Wow what a silly idea that was,  Now I am  often brought to tear as I sing out in church, can hardly wait to see if we have a new song to sing. And it was the story behind It is Well , the story of the Spafford family that God has used to turn me closer to the joy of our faith  of Christ Jesus.

Some of these wonderful hymns here takes me back to being about 13 years old, sat in church next to my parents, and then standing up holding the hymn book and singing these songs, with the organ in the corner of the worship area.

However, unfortunately I was one of those youngsters that used to look at their watch and look forward to the service ending! But it's funny how the Lord uses those memories from our childhood years, to now give us a smile, and we now sing these songs to the Lord from the heart, and still look back at all them years ago in fondness.

One time I blurted out and said, "Jesus Loves All the Little Children of the World." When that proceeded out of my mouth, I sort of glanced around in embarrassment requesting a children's song. I don't know what it is but, Christian children's songs "still" have a special and memorable place in my heart? Evidently the rest of the congregation had a little child left in them too

@Dennis1209 I loved this story from your childhood. It's ironic that you brought this up because I just discovered yesterday that this is a hymn with verses...not just a chorus, as I had only known it in church.

I was working on my Children thread over in Absolutely Positive, when I found the following words and pasted them. (On Page 11.)

Btw, I know what you mean. I, too have a soft spot for Christian children's songs and even watch videos on YT with the Cedarmont kids singing them.

"The Birds Upon The Tree Tops" is a sweet chorus my mom taught me when I was just a little thing. I never forgot it. (I tried to find verses for it online but could not.)

This one my mum chose to have played at her funeral service, as she felt it would be very fitting for the trials she had gone through in her life. She passed away last October.

I think my mum has passed this baton onto me! Lol.
