This is very confusing, could the unbelievers be saved by the faith of their spouse ?

The judgement of God

Which judgment ?   The temporal, earthly destruction of the city,   or eternal ?

The one is a foretaste of the other (II Peter 2:6), so it makes no difference. Since Rahab's faith is held up as an example of the faith that saves us from eternal judgement (James 2:25), then they must be equivalent.

You are speaking of household salvation. The bible does not promise that a spouse or family member will be saved by a believer family member or head of the household. The spiritual leader of the household has a responsibility to lead those in the family to Christ. That does not always happen and a person might go away from Christ.

Sanctified means to set apart for God.  It means that the ungodly habits are minimized by a wife who does not enjoy them and will not participate in them   That way their children grow up in a godly atmosphere.  However, he is not saved until he of his own volition gives his live to Christ Jesus as his Lord and Master.

I think an understanding of the meaning of "sanctified"will add clarity to the passage.

Especially if viewed as a process

Hi there to you Deborah, hoping that I can clarify the situation with Rahab as I understand it, thanks. It was because Rahab believed that the Israelites were going to overcome the city, that she went "out on a limb" and helped the spies escape. The result of that was that the spies told her, in order that your family is not massacred with the rest of the city, she had to follow their instructions. Having done what was required of her, she and her household were saved from death, but not from the eternal judgement. As always, I hope this was helpful, God bless.

Thank you Willa, This is the situation in my household.

My husband has not given his life to Jesus and has several blasphemous, profane, and irreverent habits. I read the topic of this discussion and was intrigued and puzzled that my husband would be granted eternal salvation on account of my faithfulness. I appreciate your explanation and interpretation.

I had always assumed that he must still believe, in his heart, the only way.

John 14:6

Jesus answered, I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
