Beau, you should call the city or whoever is in charge of your area about that tree.   Here quite a few large trees toppled the past year....some falling on homes, others fell on cars.   Alot of damage, thankfully no one killed.

Yeah, I did and this is what the alarming news is. The property across the street where this oak also stands, was taken over by the city in order to keep the structures up to standard code. This includes the tree unfortunately, and the city has this 'arborist' point of view on what they consider to monumental things such as the valley oak. They're almost considered sacred here. Yes, they do tend to drop limbs, but because this hasn't occurred, they don't see the need to alter the natural growth of it. Not yet anyway. The valley oak is also on the city's logo, by the way.

the view out of my kitchen door....    Sometimes he comes by and I let him in the house to play for a day or two then he wants to go home

Our last inside cat died a couple of years ago and he doesn't come by any more....    We don't have the cat chow out for him.

Out my front door is a brick walkway, leading to the sidewalk.  Then the street.  Across the street is a strip of grass, some bushes, and a large stone wall, holding back a hill full of trees.  On top of the hill is a cemetery.  The south side of the house, which is where my bedroom window looks,  is a view of a ski area and two ski jumps ... which I like much better!
