Quoting an excerpt of the introduction to the Book The Bible Jesus Read by Dr. Thomas McCall, and Zola Levitt,  two  teachers I have found creditable over the years:

"Obviously the Old testament was the Bible Jesus read. The New testament was gradually produced after the time of Christ, so that the Messiah, His  disciples, and apostles, as well as all of the  original Christin churches initially used only what we cll the Old testament as their Bible. All of their doctrines, all of their evangelism, and all of their practices in daily life came from the Hebrew Scriptures. Christianity was born and bred in the old Testament."

Jesus knew and loved the old testament above al other books. it was constantly on His mind and the magnificent prophecies and exciting sagas rang through all of His teaching. He quoted it profusely and, in fact, in all of His recorded lessons, he never quited any other book. The Old testament was the continuous guide of His own life, and was understood by Him to express the very will of God.

He never questioned its truthfulness and He considered every word-even every "jot  and title" to be of eternal significance. The personalities of the Old Testament were very real  to Jesus as the people of his own genration, whether they lived four hundred years or four thousand years before.

Oddly, followers of Jesus today-those who seek  to walk in His very footsteps-do not appear to appreciate the Old Testament nearly as much as He did.

To many Christians today, and many Jews as well, the Old Testament is an outmoded, cryptic, closed book. Many regard it as a collection of antiquated and superseded doctrines, events, and personalities. At worst th eold Testament has been regarded as confusing and even at variance to authentic Christian teaching.

But rightly understood, the Old testament is the foundation upon which the great truths of  the New testament rest." ....

From the introduction  to the book  The Bible Jesus Read by Dr. Thomas McCall and Zola Levitt

Rereading your title to this thread (the Bible Jesus read), something just hit me...

Jesus is the Word, and the Word became flesh. Therefor; He has to be quoting what He originally inspired.

COOL, Huh?  :)

Jesus always spoke as the Father directed Him to speak.    Perfectly Obedient.  In perfect Harmony with every Word of Yahuweh,  and all of Yahuweh's Plan and Purpose.

And what "He originally inspired" is perfectly in harmony

with ALL that the FATHER REVEALS TO LITTLE CHILDREN TODAY

(so if we are His little children,   He Reveals to us today what is in perfect harmony with all of His Word,  the truth today,  for everyone redeemed) ....   we don't have to wonder what is truth, or what is right.   God reveals it.

Once God reveals it,  it is known (in spirit, simply and purely and perfectly accomplished by the Father as we trust Him) ....

How can one fully appreciate and understand the New Testament without having  seriously studied the foundational scriptures Of the the  Tanach / Old Testament? Jesus is constantly addressing and bringing correction to the added aspects of added religious traditions, while we think He is overwriting what the foundational scriptures say. “But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one stroke of a letter of the Law to fail.” Luke 16:17

it isn't a question of did the law fail as much as who the law applies to.

And / Or... To set God's standards of a righteous and Holy life that no one could ever achieve; to be judged by those standards; and the need for a Savior to rescue us and cover us for our failings.

Romans 3:20 (KJV) Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
