An 18-year-old Dallas-born U.S. citizen has been in the custody of U.S. Customs and Border Protection and Immigration and Customs Enforcement for more than three weeks.

The way things are going it maybe best for all of us to keep our papers handy.

It isnt the first time it has happened and it has happened under previous presidents. It is only making news now because the media hates trump.

This is from an article written in 2016, before trump took office ...

However, an NPR analysis of data obtained through a Freedom of Information Act Request shows that hundreds of American citizens each year find themselves in a situation similar to Palma's. Those data show that from 2007 through July of last year, 693 U.S. citizens were held in local jails on federal detainers — in other words, at the request of immigration officials. And 818 more Americans were held in immigration detention centers during that same time frame, according to data obtained through a separate FOIA request by Northwestern University professor Jacqueline Stevens and analyzed by NPR.

I agree.  Did hear on the news today that more people were under deportation orders under Obama....I was surprised they admitted that.   Also, it's criminals being sought out for deportation.

If it has not been reported in the News before then how were you able to find a News story from 2016 on it?

We have an open border. It’s like a gaping wound. To staunch the flow, sometimes a citizen in Dallas or wherever may be detained. Life is hard. If we close the border these things won’t happen.

It was on npr, not on all the mainstream news sources. There is a difference between one article and finding it splashed all over the media.

I did not find this story splash all over the mainstream news. I believe it came from a local newspaper, and I came across it because of a FB group I belong too. Other wise I would not have come across it. But is that really the point here?
