I started watching an Amazon Prime series called The Boys and it has my interest but I got to episode 5 and it made me sad. Sad because part of it takes place at a Christian rally and they really portray the scene in a way that shows how the non Christian word really sees us. And you really can't argue with them. Hypocritical leaders, and when sincere Christians share their faith and their beliefs, they sound either arrogant or hateful. One guy says if the Bible were true then God is a "jerk" and goes through a list of hateful things that are in the Bible that are God's doing. And the old preacher he is talking too just stands there with his mouth open. The sad thing to me is, that unless you are preaching to the choir, trying to defend our faith is pretty much a lost battle to most people. Mainly because when they have a point, we say "well the Bible says"... if they don't believe the Bible, you got nothin'. Check out the program but be warned, graphic violence and language. Oh, and don't say I shouldn't be watching that stuff, it is evil. Burying  your head in the sand like the people at the rally on the show gives the other side more leverage. Just makes me sad.

I see what ya mean brother. The liberalistic media always tends to show our faith in the way they see it, and bein' they aren't followers of our faith, we are portray'd in a bad light. I tend not to be offend'd but as ya say sadden'd by it. The only thing i see i can do is show them the true light of our faith in the way I conduct myself to those around me.

Just my two bits,  JJ

The World understands a little about “ religion” which they wisely reject.....they are clueless about Christianity .Their loss.

Shalom @Bawcash

I understand your frustration.  Christians have become poorly depicted in media, partially by design, partially through observance.

If we the church are going to be honest and humble, at the moment we aren't in a good state (in general) and the world's exaggerated portrayals of us are based on real problems.  We should understand how we are being perceived if we are still to be effective in reaching the lost.  Hardening our hearts as a response is not the way.

If the letters to the seven churches in Revelation 2 are a prophecy of each church age, maybe we are in the age of Laodicea (meaning "Judging the People"). Now,  those churches did actually exist, but seem to serve as a platform for a greater message in Revelation...

  1. Ephesus - Apostolic Age - up to 100 AD
  2. Smryna - Persecution of Church - 100 to 313 AD
  3. Pergamos - Church mixes with Rome - 313 to 538
  4. Thyatira - Dark Ages, apostasy - 538 - 1560
  5. Sardis - Reformation Age - 1560 - 1790
  6. Philadephia - Revival Age - 1790 - 1840
  7. Laodicea - Modern Christianity - 1840 - present

And to the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write,

‘These things says the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness, the Beginning of the creation of God: “I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth. Because you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’—and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked— I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see.  As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent. Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.

He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches." - Revelation 3:14-22

These are of course generalisations of ages of the Church, or a "Church Health Report".  But there is always a remnant in every age.  Praise Yahweh.  How would the media portray the church of the Laodiceans?  I think it would be very similar to how Christians are portrayed today - Hypocritical, double-standards, seeking wealth and "Judging the people", which is what the name means.

Take heart though friend.  Soon He will return and set everything to right!  We must do our best until then.

Love & Shalom

OK - I checked out the program like you asked.  I went to IMDB and looked up the parent guide - [which is not Christian-based, but secular based] and it said that [and this is not a Christian review, but a review of the people who watch it]:

  • the sex and nudity was "severe".  Female/male nudity.  Gay sex.  Threesomes.  Fantasy sex.
  •  the violence and gore was "severe".  Eyes gouged out, heads exploding, brains flying out.
  •  the profanity was "severe" and "overt" with frequent uses of "f" word and "c" word.

You've asked that no one say that you should not be watching the stuff.  All right.  I've had a conversation with another member about a particular program that's like this one and it was to no avail.  I'm assuming that having this conversation with you will be to no avail as you have already stated that NOT watching it is like burying my head in the sand and gives the other side "more leverage".  I have absolutely no idea what you are trying to say with that but it sounds like you are saying Christians should watch this pornographic material to keep the "other side" from gaining leverage?  Have I misconstrued you?

You are right.  It's very sad.

I don't know how old your are, but the media has been mocking Christianity for decades in movies, journals, television and more.

I don't have to watch this to already know that.  I don't think that it is something I could watch in good conscience anyway.

I'll just say this to you.  The Apostle Paul talks about people with a seared conscience like that of a branding iron on their hearts.  They don't see sin for what it is anymore.  Just keep that in mind.

One does not have to watch this show to see the problems with the world hating the church, Jesus Christ, and Christianity.

This is all I will say.

From Jayne's descriptive view of the program, I think it would be best to avoid it all cost. Thank you.

As has been rightly said nonchristian see the worst of Christians and promote it.

It is up to us to show the reality of Christ in us by the quality of our lives and of our love for others.

i couldn't care less what a show says about my faith, the media nearly always attacks God in some way.  whats important is how do u see faith and what are your convictions.
