I’m writing a book that I plan to send out to some Christian leaders. It has some explicit references to sex in it. It is about a very powerful Christian leader who has lots of influence as well as other Christians who were involved in a coverup. As devout Christians, would you read a book that contained sexual details and sexual language?

I’m afraid it could cause some men to stumble and possibly cause emotional distress or triggers in some women. I think including the details are very important because it helps reveal the true nature of the men involved. I’m just concerned that Christians will put it down after just a few pages.

No, I would not read a book that had sexual content in it. My eyes and mind are only focused on God. That means I would not read this book

This is my fear.

I wish there was somewhere that I could post an example of what would be in the book. I don’t know how to write a book about sexual harassment, abuse and assault without mentioning some details. His excuse was that he was lonely. The type of actions he took had nothing to do with loneliness.

Sex is between a man and a woman in marriage. Our world is full of sex and most often inappropriate sex. If a man and a woman in marriage want to read a Christian book on marriage and sex that is their choice. There are a couple of good ones out there. Satan loves sex and our world has become corrupt because of all the sexual activity. If you are uncomfortable about this book maybe God is trying to tell you something.

I think God may be telling me to seek advice from a multitude of counselors. I had pastors tell me to write it. They know all the details and they  believe others should know the story, but I’m not sure if they were saying to include specific details. I’m trying to give them a break from this topic because it has been very difficult on everyone.

In the end, I will probably ask one of them to read it before it is published.

You have the wrong idea.  People LIKE gory details.  Not to learn from it or make themselves knowledgeable or teach their sons and daughters how to protect themselves.  They watch and read expose' type material because it is sensational.

If your book is just to expose the sin of someone, then that's not good enough.

If your book is to expose what can happen when Christians trust leaders too much without vetting them and holding them accountable, then you can do that without gritty, gory details.

And if you think these details will make men want to behavior immorally or make women cower in fear, that's a big no on both counts.

Trust me, we all know what sexual assault, abuse, and torment is.  Gross details are not necessary.

That is exactly what the book is for. But I must admit, when I read the details of the sex abuse by priests and saw that they put a necklace around the kids who were vulnerable and  easy targets for pedophiles, that’s when I realized the abuse was systematic and not a matter of random priests “falling into temptation.” Sometimes unique details wake people up and cause them to take action.

The people I told had  never heard of this before and it was difficult for the female Christian counselor I went to and difficult for a female cop I spoke with.

For the record, I would not describe the actual acts, but rather what was said before and after. I would also mention what this person has said he is against publicly, but in private he has done what he claims he is against and has tried to force others to do it. That is the main thing I am worried about.

Yes, this book could be on the best sellers list. We know how this world loves "SEX". But we are not of this world.Born again Christians are to stay focused on the things in heaven. That is our home.

Ok, I see.  Have you spoken to an attorney about just what you can and cannot say about a person without their consent and what to do if they sue.

I understand your wanting to bring the evil to light, but I would speak to an attorney before I wrote.  You may have to write this with the main character and church having a fake name.

Looks like you are doing as scripture tells us to do. Keep our heads on a swivel looking out for the trickery of satan. If it’s not pornographic, I don’t see the problem. Living in this rotten world for nearly 50yrs, I have seen things just outside my door that are horrible beyond belief.

Its great that you are sensitive to your fellow Saints though. Keep praying on it if you haven’t already begun the work. I would read it.
