The fulfillment of the Day of atonement in end times has always been hard to put a finger on, as there are any number of possibilities as to how this is fulfilled. But one thing to me that is certain is that Azazel will be one of the four major beasts of the book of Revelation as this name is tied explicitly to this Day of atonement. The following is a link with some relevant info, and some dubious info on Azazel. I will copy and paste part of this here that this Post will focus on.  read the whole link it is short. There is some info in there that is extra-biblical, so approach with discernment.

https://www.deliriumsrealm.com/azazel/

From the Link:

Azazel is the chief of the Se’irim, or goat-demons, who haunted the desert and to whom most primitive Semitic (most likely non-Hebrew) tribes offered sacrifices. The Old Testament states that Jeroboam appointed priests for the Se’irim. But Josiah destroyed the places of their worship, as the practices accompanying this worship involved copulation of women with goats.

The Se’irim, or hairy demons as the word itself means, are mentioned in Leviticus 17:7 and 2 Chronicles 11:15 as “goat-demons”. Isaiah 34:14 says that the “goat-demons” greet each other among the ruins of Edom along with Lilith and other wild beasts.

…....

Leviticus 16:8 tells that the Lord ordered his high priest, Aaron, to ‘place lots upon the two goats, one marked for the Lord and the other marked for Azazel’ on the Jewish Day of Atonement. The goat designated by lot for the Lord is to be used as a sin offering, while the goat designated for Azazel “shall be left standing alive before the Lord, to make expiation with it and to send it off to the wilderness for Azazel.” (Lev 16:10) Aaron was to “lay both his hands upon the head of the live goat and confess over it all the iniquities and transgressions of the Israelites, whatever their sins, putting them on the head of the goat; and it shall be sent off to the wilderness through a designated an. Thus the goat shall carry on it all their iniquities to an inaccessible region; and the goat shall be set free in the wilderness.” (Lev 16:21-22) Leviticus also says that “He who set the Azazel-goat free shall wash his clothes and bathe his body in water; after that he may reenter the camp.” (16:26)

From this passage in Leviticus, it would seem that Azazel is conceived of as a personal being, as lots were drawn for the Lord and for him. Also, Leviticus mentions that Azazel lives in the wilderness, as do the Se’irim. Because of this ritual, Azazel is known as the “scapegoat.” The goat that is sent to Azazel is not as a sacrifice, but as a symbol that there is no longer any unexpiated guilt. Both the goat and the man who leads away the goat are unclean, and the only way the man can reenter the camp is by washing his clothes and bathing.

Now in the Book of Enoch which you will also find described in the link You will find that Azazel is locked in the abyss of hell, AKA the bottomless pit. The question for me is not whether Azazel is the beast from the bottomless pit in Revelation, as this nearly proves itself, But How will the sacrifices of the day of Atonement be fulfilled in these end times? Know this, that Jesus fulfilled the sacrifice on the cross that was to the LORD, But there will also be a scapegoat that is released in the wilderness to take away the sins of Israel. Who or what is this scapegoat?

How do you see the Day of atonement being fulfilled in end times? Or has this already been fulfilled fully by Christ Jesus, was he Both the Goat for the LORD, and the scapegoat? Does the church play a role in this in any way?

The Goal of this is to gain understanding, Not to belittle anyone's views. In So doing, some views may be deemed as not viable. take no offense to this, this is how brainstorming is meant to work.

THIS POST IS NOT ABOUT WHETHER OR NOT YOU AGREE WITH AZAZEL BEING THE BEAST THAT ASCENDS OUT OF THE BOTTOMLESS PIT. This is the assumption we are starting with as a given.

There were two offerings for sin on the Day of Atonement: one for the priesthood, and one for the people. The offering for the priesthood took place when Jesus arose from the dead and ascended to heaven. The offering for the people is the event spoken of in Rev. 5:

Rev. 5:6 And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.

When Azazel, the Beast from the Abyss, is cast into the lake of fire, that will be the final act of the sins being laid upon the head of Azazel.

For more detail about these things, go here, and skip down to the section "The Day of Atonement/Yom Kippur" --

https://www.worthychristianforums.com/blogs/entry/1514-the-most-holy-place-the-feast-of-trumpetsrosh-hashanah/

This is taken from the blog post preceding the one listed above:

The Tabernacle and Court, Part 4:

The Most Holy Place

Under the Mosaic Law of the Israelite Covenant, only the High Priest was allowed to enter into the Most Holy Place of the Tabernacle, and only on one day each year. Lev. 16:2, 34; Heb. 9:7 On that day, the Day of Atonement, he was required to enter the Most Holy Place twice:

Leviticus 16:17 …that he may make atonement [1] for himself, and for his household, and [2] for all the assembly of Israel.

Under Christʼs Law of the Church Covenant,

Hebrews 8:1 We have such a High Priest… 2 a Minister of the Holy Places and of the true [i.e., Heavenly] Tabernacle which the Lord erected, and not man. … 9:12 …[who] entered [1] once into the Holy Places, having obtained (for) Himself* eternal redemption. … 24 For Christ has not entered into holy places made with hands, [which are] antitupa/antitypes/representations of the true, but into heaven itself, [2] now to appear in the Presence of God for us. … 28 To those who eagerly wait for Him, He will appear out [of heavenʼs Sanctuary] a second time without sin to [the purpose of] salvation. *Greek middle/reflexive voice.

The true meaning of this passage out of Hebrews is generally missed. The two-fold atonement required of Aaronic High Priests in the earthly Tabernacle was meant to be an accurate representation of the two-fold atonement ultimately required of the heavenly High Priest, Jesus Christ.

Although Jesus lived a sinless life, God “made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” 2 Cor. 5:21; Is. 53:4-6 Therefore, He was unclean upon His Resurrection from the dead, and needed to immediately ascend to the Most Holy Place in heaven to become purified. This is why He said to Mary Magdalene,

John 20:17 “Touch me not, for I have not yet ascended to my Father…”

In contrast, the same day in the evening, after His return from “having obtained (for) Himself eternal redemption” (Heb. 9:12, above), he told His disciples, “Handle Me and see…” Luke 24:39 By that time, atonement had been made “for Himself and for His household.” Lev. 16:17, above.

Aaronʼs household consisted of all Aaronic priests and their families. Christʼs household consists of all Melchizedek/Apostolic priests and their families, because He was

Hebrews 5:10 called by God as High Priest “according to the Order of Melchizedek…” 3:6 [and] Christ [was faithful] as Son [of God] over his own house, whose house we are if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm to the end.

Perhaps more on this next week, with excerpts from a blog post about the Beast that got removed.

Enoch 9:5 “You have seen what Azazel has done, how he has taught every species of iniquity upon Earth… 6 Semhazai has also taught sorcery…” 10:12 “All the earth has been corrupted by the teaching of the work of Azazel. To him therefore ascribe the whole crime.”

Thus Azazel carries the sins to the Lake of Fire.

The priests used to show in type the casting of Azazel in the Abyss by a custom that they observed on the Day of Atonement:

Mosaic Law and Jewish Lore about Azazel

Leviticus 16 provides much of the Mosaic Law for Yom Kippur/the Day of Atonement, the holiest day of the year in the Israelite religious calendar. In verses 8, 10, and 26, the word usually translated in English as “scapegoat” is Azazel: the passages in Hebrew literally read “to/for Azazel.

Leviticus 16:21 [A]ll the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all their transgressions concerning all their sins, put…on the head of the goat, and…cast it out… 26 …to/for Azazel.

[T]he goat designated for Azazel was given to the kohen [priest] assigned to lead it away into the wilderness. And when this kohen came to the designated ravine…he pushed the goat into the ravine.” The Rabbinical Assembly, Machzor for Rosh Hashanh and Yom Kippur, 611.

This act at the ravine, which is not included in the instructions of Leviticus 16, clearly was a custom that was added to commemorate Azazel’s being cast into the Abyss at the time of the Flood.

After being allowed by the Lord to deceive the nations, the Beast and False Prophet are defeated by Christ and “cast alive into the lake of fire.” Rev. 19:20 This fulfills “the judgment of the Great Day” prophesied for them in Jude 6, 2 Peter 2:4, and Enoch 15:9.

In the book of Enoch, Azazel is one of the fallen angels who teaches mankind about metallurgy, and cosmetology.

VIII:1 And Azazel taught men to make swords, and knives, and shields, and breastplates, and made known to them the metals (of the earth) and the art of working them, and bracelets, and ornaments, and the use of antimony, and the beautifying of the eyelids, and all kinds of costly stones, and all colouring tinctures. 2 And there arose much godlessness, and they committed fornication, and they were led astray, and became corrupt in all their ways.
