What does the Church teach about these Scriptures? Is this Christ appearing in Old Testament times or an Angel?

1.

Joshua 5:13-15 King James Version (KJV)

13 And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand: and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him, Art thou for us, or for our adversaries?

14 And he said, Nay; but as captain of the host of the Lord am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my Lord unto his servant?

15 And the captain of the Lord's host said unto Joshua, Loose thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest is holy. And Joshua did so.

2.

Daniel 3:25 King James Version (KJV)

25 He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.

To answer the OP.  YES.

'Messenger or angel' is a job description.

Yes, because it is Holy Ground. However, the 'captain' could be Michael, but Yahweh is present so therefore it is Holy ground. The captain represents Yahweh, so it may also be Yeshua and not Yahweh or both together and Michael the captain.. They often appear together. For instance, the burning bush. If it were just Michael, then he would refuse worship.

Sometimes Yeshua leaves a conversation, but the Lord Yahweh is still there and speaks. Like in Gideon's encounter.

For those who know how to rightly divide the Word of truth, it is Christ in the passages of Joshua and Daniel.

It is the Lord. Jesus is in the OT. The OT uses the term angel of the Lord interchangeably with the Lord in the form of a christophany.

To me, it's plain and evident this is the pre-incarnate Christ, or pre-incarnate Christophany. Heavenly angles of the Lord never allow themselves to be worshiped, and always direct worship to the Lord. It's forbidden for us to worship angles or angels to accept worship (Satan excluded). Where an angel stands is never Holy ground.

This man proved to be the God of heaven, one of the persons of the Divine Godhead who was personally leading Israel from Egypt. He now revealed Himself as a man, so that from outward appearance He stood like a man, looked like a man, held a sword like a man, spoke like a man with an  audible voice, and Joshua approached Him like a man(v 13).

Joshua worshipped Him (v 14), and such reverence belongs only to Divine ones. If He had only been a messenger of God He would not have permitted worship. Joshua called Him Lord, master, owner. Joshua recognised himself as His servant.

Anyone know how these verses are interpreted in Judaism? Obviously they don’t believe it’s the Lord Jesus but they also have to recognize that Jews were forbidden to bow down and worship anyone but God. So who do they say Joshua is worshipping?

As previously stated, Hebrews understood the 'two Yahweh' concepts. No doubt they are ALL there along with Michael the Captain. Possibly similar to when Abram hosted the 'three men' just before the destruction of Sodom.
