If you could go back to the past what piece of advice would you give your young self?

when I was 18 or so and discovered my church had been teaching me things that was not true, to be only upset with my church and not upset with God...  would have saved me a whole lot of repenting.....

After He saved me from dying from an overdose of LSD, the next Sunday... "Go to church!"

I would tell myself to stop being disobedient towards my parents, stop being a selfish fool, and stop making impulsive, bad decisions.

On the other hand, had I obeyed my parents, I would probably still be with the RCC, which is the religion I was baptized into and raised in. I would never  had known there was any other way to God unless He had placed someone in my path to tell me about the Gospel.

I would have stayed in church and not left home at seventeen.  I thought I knew how to handle my faith, but I didn't.  I have rededicated my life to God and it is a completely different experience.  We need to do a better job of ministering to our young people.

A life is painted with regret. I was really screwed up as a kid, and while there is a part of me that would like to potentially rid myself of those things, I also don't think I'd be the same person as I am now without having made those mistakes. I am as I am, and surely it's for a reason.

Going beyond such a generic response though, I'd advise my younger self to pursue work. Choose a path and take it. At least then my time would've been even just mildy more productive.

1. Don't get mad at God when really bad things happen in a fallen world. That would have saved a lot of self-inflicted suffering over the years.

2. A list of stocks to buy and hold for the long term. Do not sell them for any reason until after a certain year. (Time travel is supposed to be impossible, but you never know!   )

3. Don't buy that '68 red Ford pickup no matter how good it looks.

I would have told myself to pick up computer programming skills. There are other things I'd like to tell myself, like not getting involved with one of my exes, but my younger self probably wouldn't have listened to stuff like that.

Watch out for pride.

It's the main thing that separates you from God. Trust His Word completely and repent.
