Melinda12,

I don't happen to watch TV but my husband does and the one show I absolutely can't stand is Ancient Aliens.  No matter what i'm doing in the house I can hear the constant conspiracies being discussed on the show. Most of all think it gives people (who aren't believers) wrong information by taking true biblical accounts and putting an alien twist to it.

in fairness, NAKED is often used in UK shows and it has nothing to do with being unclothed. For example, the NAKED CHEF is a show about a chef who makes uncomplicated, stripped down meals that should be accessible for all to make.

so "naked" in the title may not have been a sufficient alert.

Yes, my understanding of televised programming in the United Kingdom has much less stringent standards for censorship. "Naked and Afraid" even in commercial previews are pretty much that. With some digital blurring blurring of essentials. Switching channels, not a very good documentary.

Porn is highly addictive and distructive to ones soul. Don't put it to the test. As you would  run from a rattle snake when you see it. don't hang around to see what it does.

Tv has become more and more lude so if Im watching a program and see questionable behavior I don't stare at it but quickly turn the station or even a DVD.  I have had porn addiction for much of my Life. The Lord has now set me free. The addiction is very powerful and I don't dare allow myself to look at it for  second. Take antidepressants if you have to.

As Jesus said if your right eye cause you to sin, pluck it out. Better to receive the Lord with one eye then to be cast in hell with two.

Oh TV is way beyond lewd. But people watch it. Christian people from generations far less exposed to what we are today watched it / patronized it as it slid down the rat hole of lewdness.

You are right, sex is addictive. Porn... at what point does pornography become porn?

We tolerate people going around in "acceptable" degrees of nudity every day.

Isaiah 47:1–3 (AV)
1 Come down, and sit in the dust, O virgin daughter of Babylon, sit on the ground: there is no throne, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for thou shalt no more be called tender and delicate.
2 Take the millstones, and grind meal: uncover thy locks, make bare the leg, uncover the thigh, pass over the rivers.
3 Thy nakedness shall be uncovered, yea, thy shame shall be seen: I will take vengeance, and I will not meet thee as a man.

This includes males too by the way:

To the male priests, the altar had ramps to keep the men's ankles / calves from being seen:

Exodus 20:26 (AV)
26 Neither shalt thou go up by steps unto mine altar, that thy nakedness be not discovered thereon.

One of the reasons women were not allowed to workplaces of men was because they had to trice up their robes in their waist sashes / belts to do the labor.

The father, in the Prodigal Son parable had to hoist up his robe in public to run to his returning son (another picture of the indignity he was willing to bear for the love of his son).

You might say, that's all from the Old Testament / Old Covenant.

So is what Jesus said in Matthew 5:27-30 (which you paraphrased).

Hebrews 9:16-17 clearly states that the New Covenant / New Testament did not begin until the death of the Lord on the cross.

The entire Sermon on the Mount was Jesus' divine commentary on the Law of Moses and he put the teeth back into it that the Sanhedrin took out over the course of history.

The Law was meant to be impossible for humanity to fulfill. And he was responding to the teaching of Rabbi Hillel who taught (from Leviticus 18:8 and Isaiah 47:1-3) that a woman who exposed herself thusly before men  who were not her husband, even if accidentally, was guilty of a divorceable offense (adultery). Jesus, while not refuting Hillel, reminded that school (Hillel was already dead but his teachings lived on) reminded everybody about the other side of the same coin:

Job 31:1–13 (AV)
1 I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a maid?
2 For what portion of God is there from above? and what inheritance of the Almighty from on high?
3 Is not destruction to the wicked? and a strange punishment to the workers of iniquity?
4 Doth not he see my ways, and count all my steps?
5 If I have walked with vanity, or if my foot hath hasted to deceit;
6 Let me be weighed in an even balance, that God may know mine integrity.
7 If my step hath turned out of the way, and mine heart walked after mine eyes, and if any blot hath cleaved to mine hands;
8 Then let me sow, and let another eat; yea, let my offspring be rooted out.
9 If mine heart have been deceived by a woman, or if I have laid wait at my neighbour’s door;
10 Then let my wife grind unto another, and let others bow down upon her.
11 For this is an heinous crime; yea, it is an iniquity to be punished by the judges.
12 For it is a fire that consumeth to destruction, and would root out all mine increase.
13 If I did despise the cause of my manservant or of my maidservant, when they contended with me;

I am not defending pornography. I am saying it runs much deeper in society / modern civilization  that we are aware because we are so desensitized to it.

And if you are going to invoke Jesus teaching the Law to put us under it, then put everyone under it entirely.

Otherwise, be very careful not to bring Law into Grace.

The focus now is not fulfilling the Law. Christ fulfilled it and grants us his righteousness in the Grace of our forgiveness which we receive when we believe in him.

The focus is now on evangelism.

Porn is bad, addictive, deadly, destructive to lives and souls... but we daily tolerate and accept it (granted, in lesser degrees) and indulge in it.

Matthew 7:1–5 (AV)
1 Judge not, that ye be not judged.
2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.
3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
4 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?
5 Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.

This is not about judging but helping. Neither is it about the degree of one an other's sin. Get your own act cleaned up first then go HELP your brother.

Then get back to whatever ministry* you have in the over all ministry of evangelizing the lost.

* we are all priests of God in Christ (Revelation 1:6 Revelation 5:10 1 Peter 2:3-9)

I don't have cable.   I do watch some TV each evening as I am home alot.   However, I don't watch everything.

I especially enjoy the talent shows like America's Got Talent.   I watch The Amazing Race (race and sightseeing round the world) and Survivor.   With Survivor, if anyone's clothing accidentally moves out of place during the physical challenges, it is blurred out.

Also, in the USA, any swear words are bleeped out.   The shows I watch don't have that language.

Yes, it does sometimes. Granted, it was a very different situation. And still...

John 21:7 7Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved saith unto Peter, It is the LORD. Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the LORD, he girt his fisher's coat unto him, (for he was naked,) and did cast himself into the sea.  KJV

And I think we may be faltering here as well. Thanks for posting this also. Point well made.

Whenever you cut on the television set, the computer, DVD or Netflix,
you are bringing strangers into your home, with their own agendas/worldviews.

2 John; 10-11

9"If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine(of God), receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:"

10;"Anyone who welcomes them (in) shares in their wicked work."

It takes extreme diligence, great self discipline, and a true heart of obedience, to honor God,
while watching a screen in the 'privacy' of your home...

AGT is the only show I watch......mainly news and PBS....I would hate to have choose between the girl opera singer or the comedian on AGT....
