No...not the email kind...Im talking about that delectable meaty treat that now comes in a variety of flavors. Does anyone remember it from childhood? Does anyone cool with it now? What are some of your favorite recipes? I have fond memories of my Moms Spam Mac and cheese.

I fry it in butter and make sandwiches out of it    use it instead of ground beef in meatloaf.....

And I've been known to just cut off a big chunk of the bacon flavored kind and have it for a snack.    Take a bite eat a potato chip....

Oh my. Spam used to be so good back when I was a little kid. Now I’m scared to eat it. Looks like it is packed in petroleum jelly ?

Spam

pork

Spam's basic ingredients are pork with ham meat added, salt, water, modified potato starch (as a binder), sugar, and sodium nitrite (as a preservative). Natural gelatin is formed during cooking in its tins on the production line.

The stuff lasts for years.

Fried Spam and eggs over easy! I can't handle a study diet of it, but it's O.K. on occasion.

Have a few cans of it tucked away for emergencies, like in 2005 when wide spread severe thunderstorms and tornado's swept through and the electricity was out for two weeks, in July's 98 degree heat. Thought I had all my bases covered for such an emergency; 5,000 watt generator, 7 days of gasoline for it, plenty of bottled water, satellite TV, lanterns, plenty of food, etc. A 115v. portable room air conditioner for sleeping never crossed my mind until the very first night.

I cant stand spam. It is too fatty for me. However there is one way Ive had it and enjoyed it.

When I lived on the navajo reservation, there were a couple of folks who would make breakfast burritos and sell them at the hospital where I worked. One of them included spam with eggs and potatos. Oh that was so tasty.

One day the hospital administrator opted to ban the folks selling burritos. Hospital staff raised such a fuss, the burrito folks were back within a few days.

When times were hard, diced Spam and scrambled eggs were not so bad. They came out with a hickory smoke flavor I believe, and it was pretty decent for back then. I don't care for pork at all really, so there's no desire for it and I certainly wouldn't consider purchasing Spam now. It's been many decades since my last experience. No feelings of deprivation on that.
