Google 1 and 2 Timothy Rules for Pastors.....This is easy......The Pastor must have a Stellar Reputation.....If he blows it, forgive him ,but remove him from his position .....That’s the way to handle it according to the instructions Paul gave Timothy....no debate is needed, the instructions are very clear....

That's exactly correct. You know your Bible well...

It’s 100% real but it happened 20 years ago. Nothing is going to happen to the pastor who threatened. He is too well loved. He was asked to resign from one organization where he served on the board, but that was it.

I’m trying to get a handle on why we don’t demand better from church leaders so that the church is a safe place for people. What does one have to do to get removed from leadership? The secular world demands the best. You are screened before you get a job and removed if you hurt someone. The church doesn’t seem to protect people in the same way.

It is something I’m obsessed with. Sorry.

The reason, perhaps, that the Church does not protect her own is that its messages are diluted and watered down. We want to populate the church building, but not teach disciples of Christ. Instead of the world being an attraction to the Church, she has become an attraction to the world. "The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure—who can understand it"?

The Devil convinces the world he does not exist---and the Church unwittingly has bought into that lie. Jesus asks, "Will I find faith when I return"? It is why Jesus said that only few would find the narrow way.

Don't be sorry. It should be shouted from the highest hill. Today, everyone gets a gold star even if they never earned one. In our feel-good culture, responsibility and accountability are mere words that are devoid of meaning. We talk about Scripture, but few live it. We are petrified to be honest with one another; we raise our masks high to protect our image so that others will like us, and inside we long to do what is right, and don't do it. Today the Church espouses Christ, but His Spirit is not there. People feel hopeless and have fallen through the cracks. Maybe next week something will change, they say, and they come back again and again and again, until we just go through the motions of the same, hum-drum, daily routine. We sing God's praises and shout His Name week after week, but it is empty. With church faces on Sunday morning, we leave yelling at the kids on the way home. Jesus said, "Remember me," but we don't. We want a standing ovation for a performance Jesus is not interested in. It has infected most of us in one degree or another. 80%---yes, 80% of men in church are into pornography, and 30-35% women. Renee, you are so right. We see it. We see it in our minds, but not our hearts!

There is a man who is very involved in the Christian community. He’s a pastor of a church that helps the homeless, he’s the chaplain of a major sports team, and he runs a ministry for inmates. People have said that if you find them in the street dying “call Jesus.” If Jesus is not available, then call the pastor I mentioned above. So this pastor has a stellar reputation.

One day this pastor’s best friend, who is also a Christian leader, comes to him and says he’s having an affair with a young girl and has been abusive towards her  and he’s afraid his family will find out and his reputation will be ruined in the Christian community.

The Christian pastor travels and visits the young girl and threatens her life if she tells anyone about the affair. The young girl reports the threat to the church. Is sorry enough or should the pastor  step down for committing the crime of threatening someone’s life?

Should his whole life’s work be ruined for this one offense? What does the Bible mean when it says leaders should be above reproach? Does that verse apply here?

Any thoughts?

If the pastor literally threatened someone's life, he belongs in prison, not the clergy. Lots of evil people do lots of good things to build a reputation.

a short verse found on the web:

Forgiveness Weaponized

They surround me.

Full of fury. Full of joy.

Voices raised in unison “Justice! Justice!”

Joined together by a bond of forgiveness.

None of this is actually true.  If it were, it would be all over the internet.  I did some looking and couldn't find anything about it.
Unless the OP shares a link to some proof, It's just more fake news.

However, if it were true, threatening someone's life is a felony and he would have been prosecuted.

Forgiveness is necessary and beautiful. I can tell you no vengeance was taken against these people. Their children were not victimized nor were they or their family members threatened.

Truth and transparency is also necessary in the Church. What’s the quote about truth? I think it’s :

”That which can be destroyed by truth should be.”

I do notice that forgiveness is always brought up when discussing men and their failings(this is not directed at you or anyone at Worthy). But when a woman messes up, she doesn’t get the luxury of being called “broken” or “flawed” or “weak” and in need of forgiveness. The genuineness of her faith is questioned, she is called evil, and people are warned about her.

is this an hypothetical situation? it seems to me to be inconsistent that a Christian pastor would be so Godly yet threatens the girl under the circumstances.

not that loving Christian pastors can't be bullies, but this goes a bit too far.

anyway, to answer your question, has this pastor repented, as in genuinely repented, make a public apology, and apologize to this girl and make reconstitution where appropriate?

i can't really say if he should get fired for it. because it sounds pretty serious, but repentance is still required even if he doesn't get to keep his job.

the issue is genuine repentance here. apology is only part of it. has he changed, did he apologise to the girl and try to make restitution?

i can't say whether he should have been let go or not, but if he does it the second time, then the answer is yes.

Hi Picky Pilot,

Like most, you probably had no desire to read through this whole thread since it’s a lot of posts. I posed the original question because I wanted opinions from other Christians about this pastor  because I am writing a book about this.

The story of the pastor threatening me on behalf of his friend is not on the Internet. The other two people connected to this who were fired are on the Internet. The pastor threatening me was one small part of the story.I went through much worse.

If George believes I am on a Christian website  with fake news and would like some proof,  I will give it to him. He may know my name already since I used my email address to sign up and unfortunately there have been several articles written about me although lots of details were not true.

I also exchanged emails in 2017 with the man who threatened me and was copied on other emails to him. Those emails will be in my book.

Take care
