It is very important as we are told to learn about him and his will more and more. Col 1:9 For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, Col 1:10 so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, 2Pe 3:18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen. As a Christian you have an obligation to God to show yourself worthy to handle and speak on his word. 2Ti 2:15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. It’s good to be an infant for a time, but you and I must grow. We must study, and move on from simplistic teachings and get to the deep things of doctrine. Heb 5:11 We have much to say about this, but it is hard to make it clear to you because you no longer try to understand. Heb 5:12 In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God's word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! Heb 5:13 Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. Heb 5:14 But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil. Heb 6:1 Therefore let us move beyond the elementary teachings about Christ and be taken forward to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, and of faith in God, You must learn about God so you can oppose any who falsely represents him. We are soldiers and we must stand against any and all false doctrine. Yes a small child can understand the Gospel and too often better than an adult. This is because to accept the gospel one must admit to himself he's not so big, he ain't all that. We also have to (often) realize that as brilliant so we may (or not) be we really don't know as much as we might like to think we do. I once had this problem. Gifted by God with intelligence, I thought that by my intelligence I knew that either God doesn't exist or at least, He can't be so simple. Well, I'm not saying the Almighty One is simple, no. God is actually someone beyond any human understanding. That's the hard part for many people. The next hard part is well expressed in the verses saved34 quoted. How many people accepted Jesus but are still wrestling with the simple stuff (drinking milk). To tell you the truth, it's easy to accept God's forgiveness, but it's hard to "show yourself as an approved servant". It's hard, my friends, not impossible, so never give up, you can do.
