Man chose the path of evil.

Everything had to be taught to man...

the path of eternal destruction (which he was already on see John 3:18)

and the path of eternal salvation.

Beginning with the animal skins God clothed Adam and Eve with.

Innocent blood had to be spilled for the sins of man.

This ultimate fulfillment took place on the cross of Jesus Christ.

God wanted / needed there to be no doubt about how important

and significant the sacrifice of his dear Son is.

I agree. The blood ALWAYS belongs to God because it is LIFE. He knew He would eventually shed His blood so He made a provision for the sheer gravity of sacrifice to be ever present in the hearts of those He came to save. There is no forgivenness without the shedding of blood, and initially as has been said, it was for purification. Later it became Atonement when Yeshua's blood was shed. This forever cleansed the way to the Throne thru the veil and furthermore COULD forgive this sins not covered in Leviticus.

Iv been thinking about animal sacrifice in the Old Testament and just wanted to see if my thinking here is correct.

Of course animal sacrifice doesn’t save anyone, only Jesus does. So it raises the question, what was the whole point of it?

I know animal sacrifice was like a pointer and foreshadow of Jesus, but I see this more as a secondary reason for animal sacrifice. The main reason was that in order for God to dwell among his people, they had to be spiritual clean, this does not take away sin, but it legally means that God can be around them. So in short the animal sacrifice is about a persons acceptability around God, Jesus was about the removal of sin.

Is this correct? If so, why didn’t Jesus come earlier? So animal sacrifice didn’t have to happen at all.

Thanks

I think it was guide for the coming messiah, who would be like a animal sacrifice that pays for all sins a person can have. Sin needed to be paid for and an animal is a being although with no morals, soul, personality, etc. So the animals blood is blood that paid for sin, It all leads to Jesus.
