Well, I suppose there's only one reason why I am ruling myself out at every turn.

You wrote that you "need God to change you, against your will".

So, what is your will?

Bunyan had some bad theology. By literal definition apostacy means "away from position". If you are still contemplating Scriptural matters you are not away from them, backslidden yes if not aligning with them in order to comply with the will of God, but if you have discarded the principle of holiness altogether you will not have a conscience about it.

If I was truly seeking God, I'd want to give Him my all at work. I am a lazy man and though I know what I should do, I don't do it because I get tired and just don't really want to do it. That would have to change.

Good morning Chris, as a lazy man, being baptized in the name of Jesus is a cinch. It takes minimal effort to get in the water and be immersed. You only have to bring a change of clothes and get dressed afterwards.

Oh, for all that effort, every sin you have ever committed will be remitted.

Not bad, huh?

Smile.

That would be baptismal regeneration. I could go get wet, but it wouldn't change anything.

Aaah, we found the problem. Your sins were never remitted per Acts 2:38.

That will get rid of the lazy streak, when you get rid of the weight of sin.

You are carrying a massive weight of sin, causing fatigue and hopelessness.

Time to get back to Acts, like the early church was in...reject modern "theology".

If I am, I don't feel the burden. I have to force myself to think about it. I could think about how hard I would have to work at work to really serve Jesus, and it's daunting. I have to be willing to change that to really go to Him and ask for forgiveness and remission of sins.

You ask for forgiveness but remission is His part. This is when the name of Jesus Christ is spoken over you upon immersion in water.

God honors the name of Jesus Christ as the vessel of remission.

You and I are incapable of removing our sins.

We need to get God to get good, not get good to get God.

What I would really like to happen is for God to just come and smack me around. Like press me so hard that I go screaming to Him for mercy. Whatever must be done to really get my attention. To push my heart out of its complacency. Because I can sin without consequence or emotion, except to beat myself up. And that's a very bad sign.

Like it's crazy that you were only half seeking and He just flattened you, and I had been working and working and nothing. Kinda like you just stumbled onto Him, right? Ugh. I can't get it together.
