Is having one or more lustful thoughts sinful? If so, then you would still have to ask forgiveness and repent aka turn back to God and to His Will as having one or more lustful thoughts is not in accordance with God or with His Will. If you repent, God will forgive you and forget that one sin and you will not be punished. God will read your heart and know how repentant you are. Also, remember how one who willfully sins and does not repent has said sin outstanding and all former righteousness does not compensate. The bottom line is: is God not worthy of our confessing our sinfulness to Him and asking Him to forgive us, knowing He will IF we are sincere .. such is repentance? And my question to you was neither assinine or just to trick you. It was meant to put all on the line, so you would look at all the question involves and know what you should answer.

Margo, no one who is not a sinner can be heaven-bound. All men sin; it is our nature. Repent means to turn to Jesus and let him do a work in us that we cannot do in ourselves. If left alone and God did not save us, we could not even know that sin is something Jesus must help us overcome. We cannot do it. "Apart from me you can do nothing." So pray, and pray often and commune with our Father. He knows who we are. He knew you from before the foundations of the world. He knew in his Throne Room that there would be a Margo on this earth, and He knew all about your sins. Jesus wants us to believe in him---the one who kept the Law for us because he knew we could not. That cup he drank was the full cup of wrath reserved for us; but he took it all. He took what we deserved so that he could receive what we deserved. We were forgiven at the cross. Instead of pleasing him, we must instead learn to trust him. We pass the love he gave to us to each other. The irony is that the more we shout his Name, the more we tell others about him, the more we love him---the more we realize just how much he loves us. Stop thinking about your sins or focusing on how well you do, and start focusing on Him and how well He's done. You cannot do a doggone thing. He has done all of it for you. Believe Him, and love Him, and you will notice that the desire to sin will grow less and less. I hope this helps while you wait for Blood Bought's response. :)

Amen!   Loved all of your post but wanted to comment on the above.   Yes, to get our eyes on Jesus is so important.   Some people think about their sins so much, that is all they concentrate on it seems.   Get our eyes on our Savior and His finished work instead of sins.   Reach out to others with the love of Christ from our hearts.

Of course you are correct , Deb .....People need to be “ SON -Conscience” as opposed to constantly being “SIN-Conscience”........I can see that being a problem for those who don’t really believe all of their sins have been paid for by the Shed Blood Of Our Savior. The Gospel Of Paul, given to him by Jesus personally, has two parts that need to be Believed. That first part declares that “ Jesus died for our Sins”. People refuse to believe that and rest in it .That is the root of the problem . People do not Believe the Gospel that saves.

I think you perhaps are being legalistic here

Legalistic ? Perhaps?...........there is  no “ perhaps” about it !  I am The Law Of Moses on Steroids! I know my Bible.....we are saved by Works , so every man can boast, right? .......NOT !  Are you new here?  I think you need to take a gander at my past posts. I have chastised some people in here for accusing me of being a proponent of “hyper-Grace”....... what an insult ! I firmly believe in “SUPER HYPER GRACE”......I liken myself to the “ Soup Nazi” Of Seinfeld Fame .....I am a self- described “Leaven-Nazi”. I just want you to understand who you are conversing with before we continue our friendly chats ...God bless.....

I believe God can do anything but we must still face the consequences of our sin or crime, as in "39.One of the criminals who were hanged railed at him, saying, 'Are you not the Christ?Save yourself and us!'40 But the other rebuked him saying, Do you not fear God,since you are under the same sentence of condemnation?41.And we indeed justly , for we are receiving the due reward of our deeds, but this man has done nothing'42 And he said,Jesus ,remember me when you come into your kingdom.'43 And he said to him, Truly ,I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise."(ESV.Lk.23:39-42).They still had to face the music for what they had done regardless of the fact that one was forgiven ,although I am not so sure whether or not, the one that rebuked Christ was.The Bible does not say as far as I Know.

repentance is "returning aka turning back" to God from Whom we turn when we choose to knowingly and willfully sin .. repentance is "changing back" to doing God's Holy Will instead of our own will .. if you think you can be saved even when you sin and do not choose to ask forgiveness and to repent aka return to aka turn back to God and aka change to doing HIS Will, not yours, then so be it .. God loves sinners but hates sin coz sin turns us away from and separates us from Him until we choose to repent aka return to aka turn back to Him and change back to doing HIS Will, not ours .. if we never choose to do so, we choose to remain separated from God and on our own and destined to you know where, not Heaven ..

Margo, you seem to be very familiar with the Word ...I hope you don't mind if I ask you a couple of personal questions, of course you don't have to answer, ...how long have you been walking with the Lord, and, ...as a Blood Bought, redeemed  child of God, ...do you  chose to ''willfully'' sin?

No offense meant, I'm not questioning your salvation, ...I'm just asking from my own personal experience.

As a babe in Christ, saved in a denominational church that ''taught'' their own particular ''doctrine,'' instead of the Word, I was deceived as to the Truth of God's Word, ...while in that church I was very careful to not ''willfully'' sin in my daily actions, based on the ''fear'' of dying at that moment and going to Hell, ...but, while I had given up pornagraphy, yet still lusted after women and in my mind conjured up all kinds of sinful acts with them, so yes, I had stopped physically ''doing'' the acts, ...but in my mind I was still a slave to sin.

Then after three years Father mercifully moved me to another church where I herad the ''voice'' of the Holy Spirit as His pastor was teaching His Word, ...there I moved from being a babe in Christ to a child, learning to chew on the ''meat'' of the Word, then on to a young man defeating the devil's temptations by using my sword, the verse the Holy Spirt flashed on the flat screen in my head to defeat the temptation, ...and then solely, by His grace, to be a father, ...as my Father chose me to bring Christ to men so that Father can bring them to His Son to receive their Salvation.

I have relinquished all authority in my life to the Holy Spirit many, many years ago and have been walking with the Holy Spirit guiding me in the footsteps of my Lord Jesus Christ all the while being conformed into His image, ...it has been my experience the Holy Spirit never ''leads'' me into sin, however, ...there have been times in reacting to an injustice I have observed, when, in my ever present old carnal nature, I have started to think, in my mind, to willfully sin, ...at that very moment the Holy Spirit goes nuclear inside of me, I sense in my spirit His intense warning, the verse on the flat screen in my head goes to large capital letters flashing red and with an alternating image of my Lord's beaten, bruised, swollen body hanging on the Cross, ... His voice is softly, but firmly sayinģ to me, ''Son, don't even considser that!''  ...heartbroken and not wanting to be responsible for adding another sin to the weight my Lord is already carrying, ...I use the verse given me to defeat the devil's temptation.

Also, it has been my experience, when talking to and teaching new converts, babes in Christ and children, the Holy Spirit  is never mad or angry with them, on the contrary, I sense His intense Agape Love for them and I hear His voice saying to me, ''I forgive them, ...they don't know what they are doing, ...my son, ...let me use you to teach them My Truth.''

I hope you can see my confusion in you saying a born agan child of God willfully ''choses'' to sin, it has been my experience the Holy Spirit teaches His young and untaught children in the Faith the Truth of His Word all the while applying the forgivness of ''all'' of their sins already paid for by Jesus on the Cross by the washing of His Word, and for His children that are ''walking'' in the Law of the Spirit of life, following in the footsteps of Jesus as the Holy Spirit is conforming them into the image of Christ, ...for me, the Holy Spirit has planted His Holy hatred for sin in me, ...it cost God the life of the Son, ...so it is unimaginable to me to even think of chosing to willfully sin, let alone habitually living in a sinful lifestyle!

Lord bless
