Prov: Control Your Temper

Recommended Posts

CONTROL YOUR TEMPER

Pr 16:32  Better a patient man than a warrior, a man who controls his temper than one who takes a city.

It's easy enough to get angry. But "man’s anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires." James 1:20 Anger is not mentioned in the list of the fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5:22,23, but patience and self-control are listed. Anger is not mentioned in the characteristics of love in 1Cor 13:4-7, but being patient and being not easily angered are listed.

Ecc 7:8,9 "The end of a matter is better than its beginning, and patience is better than pride. Do not be quickly provoked in your spirit, for anger resides in the lap of fools."

Paul tells us to be angry but do not sin.  I'm certain that we all experience the temptation to allow our anger to lead to sin quite frequently.  For the average person this battle is one which can be won with prayer, God's grace, and patient practice.  However, there are those individuals for whom the conquest of this temptation exists as a seemingly impossible task.  For those individuals afflicted by trauma from experiences had during childhood or adolescence, whether they be growing up in an alcoholic family, or sexual abuse, etc., the ability to maintain control over one's emotional state can be often beyond ones perceived resources.  For those individuals so afflicted, do not give up hope.  God knows your struggle.  He knows the insults that have brought you to your present state.  He loves you and will provide.  During these times the feeling of being alone can be overwhelming and it may be difficult to maintain hope.  Very often a well founded well organized church can offer a wealth of resources.  With appropriate care by those trained in dealing with these types of cases, which are unfortunately all too common, relief and spiritual growth can be experienced within a Christ centered approach.  I would strongly suggest to anyone struggling with these issues to seek help.  You are not alone.  God will never allow you to lose your soul.

How true the word of God is, but also it's easier to read then apply it at times. We must make ourselves apply his word in every area of life. I believe their is times to be angry, however one must obey God in this and deal with the issues correctly. I like to add:Ephesians 4:26 26"In your anger do not sin": Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry.

God bless 😇
