The doctrine of expectancy ... is to live as though you're meeting Jesus today.

A tale is told between two Rabbis ... One Rabbi says to the other Rabbi ... Do you believe the Messiah is coming today?  The Rabbi replies ... Yes, meanwhile his response is while he is planting an olive tree.  An Olive tree takes 15 years to develop fruit worthy of harvesting.  To which the Rabbi asks, then why are you planting an olive tree.  He replies, "for my grandchildren".

Each day, we are to live as if we're going to meet the Messiah today ... but also live our lives as if we'll live till old age and prepare the next generation.

This is how it's been from the beginning ... to prepare to see Jesus today ... and yet prepare the generations that follow us to see Him as well.

Day or Hour ... but we can certainly see the season.

6,000 years is a very accurate prediction: 2,190,000 days. Unless 6,000 years doesn't mean 6,000 years?

When the interpretation doesn't coincide with the REST of the Word ... then one must re-evaluate the original interpretation.

I agree and disagree. I agree from a religious point of view, but disagree from a logical point of view.

If messages in the Bible fight against themselves, there's only a few conclusions to draw from it.

The Pharisees missed Jesus' first coming, because they were focused on a incorrect interpretation ... it's no wonder that many miss the signs of his soon Return because of erroneous understandings.

And this is going back to my original thought, that maybe the disciples were interpreting Jesus' message wrong. And therefore documented Jesus' words in their perspective (of the end coming soon). Because again, it was written that the disciples often misinterpreted what Jesus said.

Does this seem like a possibility to you? Or do you think they were 100% infallible when writing.

Even in their lifetimes, the disciples didn't understand all of the plan of God.  Let me give you an example.

Here was Peter saying in Acts 3 --

Act 3:21  whom heaven must receive until the time for restoration all the things about which God spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets long ago.

Now, Peter understood what the promise was to Abraham -- he was to be a FATHER of MANY NATIONS.  We also know the ANGELS understood this ... and yet ...

Peter doesn't understand the Gentiles coming into the Kingdom ... he's caught surprised when Cornelius receives salvation ... and more so ... the gift of the Holy Spirit (Acts 10), and later the Jews attacked Peter for preaching to the Gentiles ... (Acts 11) ... the early disciples were very focused on the restoration of Israel ... Acts 1:6  So when they had come together, they asked him, “Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?

But Paul understood this promise to the Gentiles being restored to the Kingdom ... and notice what he says in Ephesians 3 ...

Eph 3:4  When you read this, you can perceive my insight into the mystery of Christ,
Eph 3:5  which was not made known to the sons of men in other generations as it has now been revealed to his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit.
Eph 3:6  This mystery is that the Gentiles are fellow heirs, members of the same body, and partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel.

This mystery that Gentiles were FELLOW HEIRS (not SOLE heirs mind you) but FELLOW HEIRS!

Eph 3:9  and to bring to light for everyone what is the plan of the mystery hidden for ages in God, who created all things,
Eph 3:10  so that through the church the manifold wisdom of God might now be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly places
Eph 3:11  This was according to the eternal purpose that he has realized in Christ Jesus our Lord,

That the mystery of Gentiles coming into the promises of Abraham ... as a fellow heirs was HIDDEN EVEN from the ANGELS for 4,000 years!

The angels understood the promises of God ... and they didn't perceive the ENTIRE PLAN OF GOD in the 1st century.  So then, if they didn't understand the complexities of God ... how much more so should we be so naive to think we can fully comprehend the complexities of the plan of God.

There are MYSTERIES hidden even now ... for the Word is clear ... Dan 12:4  But you, Daniel, shut up the words and seal the book, until the time of the end. Many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase.”

The book is still SEALED to some degree ... but that doesn't MEAN ITS NOT the VERY WORD of GOD!  What one considers error ... is simply poor understanding or misinterpretation of Scripture.  So in order to figure it out ... one must come to the very simple conclusion as Paul once said,

1 Corinthians 8:2  And if any man thinks that he knows anything, he knows nothing yet as he ought to know.

God bless,

George

God bless,

I understand your point that no one understands the plan of God, but I don't think you answered my question.

Do you think it's possible that the authors wrote the letters through their own perspective, which was "the end of times will be in our generation".

So what Jesus taught them regarding the end of times, they wrote based on their understandings, (and since they don't know the full plan of God, nor was it revealed). God let them write from their own understanding, in order to keep the secret knowledge hidden?

and maybe this would explain why the style of writing is: "...end of the world is imminent".
