Whether one is keeping Friday sundown to Saturday sundown Sabbath, or Sunday, what does one actually spend the time doing that is different from other days?

I recognise there are different answers, depending on the day. I can't think of how else to express my question.

For me it is a day off. I've been taking a drive on Sundays and watching football in the afternoon. When we are allowed to, I'll resume going to church. Right now I watch the In Touch Ministries (Charles Stanley) show early in the morning.

After pages and pages of discussion on the forum about keeping the Sabbath, no-one can tell me what a Sabbath day activity looks like, or how it is spent by Christians?

Same with Sunday.

How do we know if we are spending either of these days correctly if we don't know how they are to be spent in a way pleasing to God?

That is a great question and there certainly will be many different interpretations.....

For me, there are more than a few-

a) attend church services, either Friday evening or Saturday morning,

b) attend bible studies that may be available after services or on Friday evening if they do not offer services,

c) read Scriptures and take an issue that is not completely clear in your mind,

d) help people in need and when / if the opportunity presents itself, and it will, bring in the Word to them and you might / will find they want to hear / learn more...

e) call up a story in the Bible and try and try and learn what His message was to those involved ( then), and how it applies to you today,

f) find one or more friends who want to get together over lunch / brunch, etc., and just start talking about God and His Word.. can establish a topic that all would be interested in discussing before hand,

leah777, as you know, this is not a day to rest from your secular activities, although it most likely will be, but it is a Holy day where your thoughts and time is to be spent with God. That is a fairly wide range but it has a focus on your relationship with Him.

It is not resting from work and watching a football game or things of that nature but it is anything where you putting Him first this day.

Personnally, it begins with a pre-church discussion (1 hour usually), about a pre-selected verse or chapter in the Bible. Then Church services and a approximate 1.5 hours of lunch (involves discussion on everyday things and biblical comments, etc). Afterwards, people usually go their own way and can head home to relax and read, think, talk with God, etc.

In the beginning, I could not possibly imagine how I was going to fill this day with activities that would prove I kept His Sabbath the right way... That might be considered or thought of as a burden or difficult chore to overcome... but it is not!

Like almost anything new, take it slow. He is there the entire Sabbath- take a little time at first just reading a few chapters- think about Him and your relationship... He is not wanting you to punch a clock in and out on the Sabbath and grade you on  the quality and quantity of you Sabbath activities.

Start with simply telling Him you recognize His Holy day and you want to spend time with Him this day- trust Him, He will jump all over this!

Not scriptural, but it might give you some thoughts.

By the way, I do promise that you will definitely feel / learn just how different His Sabbath is versus a day that man has selected - same 24 hour period but so not the same, Charlie

leah777, one more thing and I do NOT want you to think I am trying to tell you what to do, but this evening at sunset is the beginning of the Sabbath day.

If you were interested, perhaps you might try and spend some time this evening reading a chapter or contemplating your life and relationship with Him... He WILL be there! Charlie

I am Jewish. I am not asking for personal help with this, I am asking for information on how others experience or perceive sabbath or sunday.

I spend a part of every day reading my bible, contemplating, praying, worshipping alone. Hence my question about what specifically is different for others about a sabbath or sunday. Many say they do something special, but do not say what they do.

I am a full time carer to two adults, alone. I am in lockdown. I do not have other Christians or church available to me. Worthy is my fellowship.

Most of your points are my daily routine anyway - except the church and human contact bits. Thank you for responding. Its interesting to see how others behave.

Jewish Sabbath, yes. I want to know how Christians keep Sabbath, as I assume it's not the same way as Jewish. Not involving synagogue attendance etc.

Thank you very much for responding!

Leah, I don’t know if you will agree with me, but I DO know that almost all Christian denominations do not see it this way and I believe this is a direct result of anti-semitism beginning with the RCC, but here goes:

There are approximately 2.3 billion Christians and Catholics in the world. However, there is really no such thing as Christianity!

Certainly it is the Greek translation of the Messiah but it became a NEW religion apart from the Jewish religion (sorry, don’t really like that word).

In my mind, there are only two religions in the world- the Jewish religion and Everyone else... period.

Throughout the Tanaka God have us His Word and all the completely accurate prophetic verses. He made it quite clear to all (unfortunately it was only clear on this side of the Cross), He would send The Messiah at the perfect time.

And of course, everything He wrote came true and He became our Passover Lamb, our High Priest and our Lord and Savior. Consequently, His first coming was NOT to start a new religion but to fulfill His Word and Plan of Salvation for us.

Therefore, we are all sons of Abraham and grafted into His Tree. The Jews were already grafted but most have rejected their own Messiah - but they will be grafted back in stronger than ever at the right time.

So, what does all these attempt to mean- that there is or should not be ANY difference in the practices and ways we meet with our Messiah on the Sabbath. He never commanded we must attend church services for salvation, He does command we honor His Sabbath- He really does know what He is talking about!

Here is how I see it- no one has the same relationship with all the people in their lives. They are no cookie cutter relationships. I am 100% sure that God can not wait to have a completely unique relationship with each and every one of us!!!!

He doesn’t want prayers that are essentially nothing more than a continuous repeating of a prayer (RCC), rather He wants to hear YOUR OWN words and thoughts to Him. The more you personalize your relationship with Him the closer you guys will become!

Leah, I apologize if this comes across as offensive in ANY way- not my intention, I guess I just vomited out all these thoughts.

God bless, Charlie

I am not sure, English is not my first language, but are you lecturing me on how to be a Christian?

There is no Jew or Gentile in Christ. We are all one new part of His body of church.

Gentiles have not become Jews. Jews have not become Gentiles.

There is nothing wrong with the Greek Christian word, it was used in the Bible. It denotes the new faith through Jesus death.

I do not understand what you are driving at to change my op into a conversation about how all Christians have somehow become Jews.

One is born a Jew, one can, under certain rare circumstances, convert to Judaism. Anyone can be Christians through faith alone.

If I have misunderstood you, I apologize, but I find your post confused between actual Jewish people and Christians. I recall Peter the apostle had troubles with the concept.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
